Warriors drop Knicks to 1-9 with 121-107 rout

NEW YORK (AP)—Stephen Jackson(notes) still wants to be traded, though perhaps seeing the Knicks up close should make him scratch them off his list of preferred destinations.

Because if he wants to win a championship, he needs to look in other directions.

Jackson scored 23 points, three other players had 22, and the Golden State Warriors sent the Knicks to the worst 10-game start in franchise history with a 121-107 victory Friday night.

Golden State is open to trading Jackson, but it’s highly unlikely the Knicks would take on his salary and cripple their free agency plans. So it’s possible this was his only trip to New York this season.

“This is one of the best places to play,” Jackson said. “If somebody says it’s not, they’re lying. Everybody wants to say they played in the Garden. Everybody gets up to play here and I’m no different than anybody else.”

Monta Ellis(notes), Kelenna Azubuike(notes) and Corey Maggette(notes) all had 22 for the Warriors, who easily improved to 1-1 on a five-game Eastern Conference road trip by shooting 58 percent from the field. Reserve C.J. Watson(notes) finished with 19.

Danilo Gallinari(notes) had 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first career double-double for the Knicks, who dropped their sixth straight and fell to 1-9. David Lee(notes) scored 17 points and former Warriors forward Al Harrington(notes) had 16.

“I just thought our lack of fight was the most disappointing thing,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “It’s bad, there’s no doubt about it. We’ve got three days off, we’ll practice hard and we’ll try to figure out something better and see who wants to come forward.”

A high-scoring affair was expected after they split two meetings last season, with New York winning 138-125 at home and the Warriors cruising to a 144-127 victory in California. Neither team was that sharp Friday, but Golden State was good enough to lead comfortably most of the game.

“The game was two teams that actually matched up pretty well against each other, played the same style,” Warriors coach Don Nelson said. “Probably the team that was going to shoot the basketball was going to win and that was us.”

It was a rare easy night in a season of headaches for the Warriors, whom Nelson called a “very difficult team to coach so far” Friday morning. The turmoil began when Jackson said during the summer he wanted to be traded, naming the Knicks as one team of interest because of his relationship with Harrington.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh had Jackson in Indiana and likes him, but Jackson has too much money and years left for a team that refuses to part with its salary cap space for next summer.

In the meantime, the players here now haven’t been competitive.

Jackson and Ellis each scored 10 points in the first quarter, and Golden State shot 64 percent in opening a 32-26 lead. The Warriors found little to no resistance on their drives to the hoop throughout the first half, leading by as much as 16 and building a 66-52 cushion at the break.

“We knew there was no shot blockers in there,” Ellis said. “Our game plan was to attack the basket, move the ball two times and we would have open shots, and that’s what we did.”

The Knicks helped out by committing 13 turnovers that led to 23 points in the first half, with rookie Toney Douglas(notes) firing a pass over celebrity row on one possession.

“This is not who we want to be. They played harder than us,” Douglas said. “They didn’t change nothing. Any team that plays harder at the end of the day will come out with the win. I don’t think we played hard enough.”

Searching for any combinations that would work, D’Antoni started seldom-used rookie Jordan Hill(notes) in the third quarter, then later went deep into his bench to give Darko Milicic(notes) a shot. The Knicks defended in the period, holding the Warriors to 7-of-21 shooting and pulling to 86-80 heading to the fourth.

Golden State then hit its first four shots, including 3-pointers by Anthony Morrow(notes), Watson and Jackson, to push the lead back to 13 less than 2 minutes into the fourth and it was never close again.

Nate Robinson(notes) returned after missing six games with a sprained right ankle.

NOTES: Stephen Curry(notes), who started his first six games before coming off the bench in the last one, didn’t get in until there was 1:05 left in the first half. Nelson joked that Curry, taken with the No. 7 pick, one before the Knicks would have picked him, wasn’t a starter because he didn’t have any tattoos. … One game after scoring a season-high 23 points in his first start, Douglas was a reserve again after feeling ill Thursday. … A delegation from the Afghan women’s national youth development team attended the game. They also are scheduled to go to Washington and attend a Wizards game.

what this fails to mention is that the Jazz are gonna get one helluva draft pick after the season. So as bad as it seems new york, it only gets worse.

Isiah Thomas was a better GM than Walsh. The Knicks could have had a backcourt of Eric Gordon and Brandon Jennings. Instead Walsh drafted Danilo Galinari and Jordan Hill. There was so much hate for Isiah and yet he drafted well. The trades and the free agent signings were bad but he drafted well. Yet knick fans booed him out of town. I think the fans are the problem.

A.I. is available. Salvage what we have, loose one of the scrubs and sign him for the rest of the year. That's at least one more win right there.

I don't post much but had to after reading the box scores for the last 5 Knicks games:

Chris Duhon - Starting NBA Point Guard
    Games - 5
    Minutes - 142
    FG% - 10% (3-30 all 3's)
Non 3 FG% - 0% (0-13) How do you go 5 games without making one layup in a wide open system?
Offensive rebounds - 0 (Don't expect much but this is a hustle stat and balls bounce all over in a wide open style, he missed 27 of his own shots and couldn't even chase down one ball!)
    Assists - 5/G (25 total)
Opposing Starting Point Guard Stats for the 5 Games - FG% 47% (23-49), 12 PPG

You rarely see a slump this bad in baseball, I honestly feel sorry for the guy!

First of all Knickerbocker managements does not comprehend basketball that is why the basketball team is suffering The y are unwilling to mold there younger players. They are always looking for a superstar to buy from another team. GUESS WHAT no superstar is not coming our way unless we draft that player. Everyone in the Organization of basketball including players are fully aware that the knicks organization is incompetent and is not loyal. For example Last year the knicks was off to anwesome start with Crawford and the Power foward that they traded Knicks definitely was going to make the palyoff if we had keep our nucleus senior palyers. They were winning. What the knicks organization did is traded away there best players who had chemistry. Our 2009 -2010 season will not go any way unless we start Curry as our center David Lee is our Power Forward not a center.Duhon and Larry Hughes should come off the Bench they are not starters. The rookie point guard, should start with Galineri at Small forward and Chandler as Shooting Guard. The starting 5 should be Curry at Center and we need him in the paint area always for his inside game. David Lee should be the Power Foward and David Lee wee need both you and Curry to climb the boards and defend the paint and score as much ass you can inside 5. David should not play further than 15 feet from the basket. Galinieri should be the Small forward and rebound when he can. we need Galinieri to shoot the ball from outside and inside He is a shooter shoot the ball and play defensiv. Tighten up your defeense Galinieri if yo cannot defend much always try tosteal the ball. You are a scorer shoot the ball. Chandler you are a big guard you should do it all shoot , steal rebound and defend Chandler also should not hesitate to shoot. You need to attack the basket more chandler we need to see you driving and creating fouls. Shoot the three when you can do not hesitate. Rebound when you can chandler mix it up ,You have the potential to be a supersstar but you have to go get it.Be more selfish. Douglas your job is to break down the defensee and score when you can . Do not hesitate to shoot when they leave you open
Your job is to break down the defense and hit the open man also we need you to play in your face defense on other point guards. Be up on your man
from the time he touches the ball look for the steal always. Do not hesitate to hit theopen man or score .
The bench needs Jerome Hill To play we need to mold the guy he is talented. Jerome Hill and Harrington should be the first players coming off the bench, follow by Nate Robinson and Duhon and Hughes. In addition the back up center should be given to the shot blocker we need him in there too at least for 7 minutes We need to play him more in the second quarter. Try my Idea for 4 games and then tell me if my idea is not working... If the knicks follow my plan they will make the playoff this year. Knicker bocker fan who knows that he can coach the team. Finally the first 5 minute of the game the knicks should play pressure defense on the defensive end and Running game on the offensive end The same goes for the beginning oof the Fourth quarter. If we do these things we will make the playoff this year I guarantee. Follow my plan and you will see the result.
Knicks fan who can coach the Players.

As a life long Knicks fan, I had really given up on the team. Truthfully, since the glory years of Bradley, Pearl, and Clyde they have been unbearable to watch with a few exceptions-the Ewing final and a few minutes of Bernard, but then he blew out his knee and that was that. And yes there was the coked out Ray Ray and Sugar tamdem, get my drift? And above all the stupid drafts and the wasteful spending which never ceased to sic ken me.
At the moment I'm living in Spain where I teach and have become a fan of Barcelona football-probably the best soccer team and organization in the world. Seeing how this team runs it business really gets me angry when I read about the Knicks, and fellows I remember seeing Bradley's second game at the old garden. However there is hope. Barcalona president Joan Laporta is leaving his job because the team has term limits. Maybe senor LaPorta would take the Knick job? We could ask. After all we have just about tried everything else.

As a Knick fan, it's sad to say you reap what you sow. The team was decimated by Walsh. Jamal Crawford would have been the best player on the Knick roster, had they kept him. Yet he doesn't even start for Atlanta. There isn't a player that would start for a decent NBA team, except for David Lee and he would be a role player, not a star.

So why would anyone expect a team that is being run into the ground to hustle and lay hard? These guys are pros, yes, but other teams that are trying to either win or built something just have more pep in their step, spring in their legs, and more fire in their bellies.

As hard as it is to imagine, these Knicks are far worse than any of Isiah's teams. That isn't to say anything even remotely positive about the plague of his leadership. If the plan was to have an entertain run 'n' gun team until a savior arrived that isn't happening either.

Why would any stud player come to NY? Lots of good teams are clearing cap space as well. Any notion of entitlement to the Big Apple may be misguided. You have to play both ends of the court to get out of the East and make the NBA finals. If you disagree, don't hold your breath until it hapens.

when she visited us here in the philippines just last thursday, US Secretary of State said that aside from Chicago, she used to root for the New York Knicks back in their glory days but she admits that she finds it difficult rooting for them now. couldn't blame her. A 1-9 win-loss record and now, losing to a sorry ass team says a lot.

knicks ain't getting anywhere. Fire D'Antoni. If there's somebody who will turn this franchise around, it wouldn't be him. Doesn't know how to preach defense and doesn't trust his bench even when the knicks are now at the near bottom of the league.

The 'win now' mode will always keep us in cap hell.

Good responsible cap management will keep us healthy and ready for prospects to come, for years to come. And make no mistake about it. We will have to sacrifice a season from time to time to keep that in place.

NEVER FORGET THAT KNICK FANS! NEVER FORGET THAT.

#44, don't forget. Donnie inherited this mess from Isiah.

Donnie's sacrificed the 'win now' mode (that Isiah put into place) to give us cap space. Our prospects are great for next year. And the only thing we need from this team right now is a decent record, for pride sake).

There is no way this team by itself can be this bad.

I praise Donnie for putting our cap space opportunity in place thus far. But.......

I am questioning D'Antoni more and more each game. This record is a reflection of the coach. That is fatal mistake #1. Fatal mistake #2 was D'Antoni highly recommending that we draft Gallinari over Lopez, who is now a defensive presence for the Nets (I know, I know they aren't doing great either). But we sure could have used Lopez in the middle, so we'd at least have a true center in the middle to give us a chance to win some games. Fatal mistake #3 is D'Antoni saying that Gallinari was the greatest shooter he's ever seen, instantly putting the whammy on his head.

Am I being panicky? I don't know yet. Maybe it's just a matter of time before these guys get it together and maybe win 20 games. But I'm not about to hold my breath. There is no real problem with this team putting up points (and it could be better) but D'Antoni has to start emphasizing more defense. I'm not about to tear this team apart, because I know they are better than this. All of these players for the most part come from descent teams, who had descent records if not better.

So it's on the coach right now.

Nelson is a joke and is just getting worse. The handling of a talent like A.Randolph and other young potential stars is just mind boggling. He gives a dud like Mikki Moore 16min of game time and Randolph 6min....are you kidding me.

Seriously the constant flux in the starting line up is not good for team cohesion. the temperamental whims of Nelson are ridiculous, he has the attitude of a 16yr old teenage girl and certainly has gotten progressively worse a developing young talent (if he ever did have that talent) as the years progress. GSW needs to cut ties and start anew. It's a solid young roster with lots of potential, There are teams out there that would kill to get there hands on Randolph, Morrow, Azubuike, Curry. Yet he dicks them around and plays over the hill scrubs like Maggette and Moore over them or shows them no confidence by constantly switch their role and playing time.

Nelson is a joke and need to be put out to pasture.
