BOSTON (AP)—With Corey Maggette sidelined, the Los Angeles Clippers needed something extra from Quentin Richardson.

He obliged with eight 3 pointers while scoring 36 points to lead the Clippers to a 95-86 win over Boston on Wednesday night as the Celtics lost their fifth straight game.

“Coach (Dunleavy) told us before the game that it was an important game tonight because we were missing Corey (Maggette),” Richardson said. “Once I hit a couple of shots, my confidence was unbelievable.”

Richardson scored 14 fourth-quarter points and keyed a 17-6 run over the final 7:41 when the Clippers overcame an 80-78 deficit.

“I thought the key tonight was the defensive fourth quarter we had,” Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. “Whatever Quentin’s mental preparation was for the game, I’d like to see him do it again.”

Marko Jaric finished with three points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Clippers, who have won three straight on the road for the first time this season.

“We need as many road wins as we can get and it feels good to get that monkey off our back,” said Elton Brand, who had 22 points and 11 rebounds. “We knew they had been struggling and we didn’t want them to get healthy on us.”

Boston has lost nine of 11 and is 0-4 under interim coach John Carroll.

The Clippers snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Celtics.

Paul Pierce had 22 points and Jiri Welsch added 20 for the Celtics, who were outscored 25-12 in the fourth quarter.

“We have to eventually say this is enough and protect our home court better,” Welsch said. “Opponents are taking advantage of our sloppy play.”

Walter McCarty knocked down a 3-pointer that capped off a 9-0 run by the Celtics and gave them a 41-34 lead. The Clippers responded with an 8-0 run of that included five straight points by Elton Brand.
