Duncan returned to the lineup to score 16 points and grab 10 rebounds in San Antonio’s 87-78 victory over Utah on Monday night.
“It was great to get a win on his night,” Duncan said.
The NBA champion Spurs retired Robinson’s No. 50 in a postgame ceremony. He retired last summer after 14 seasons with the team.
“This is a moment you always dream of, but never think will come,” Robinson said. “It’s overwhelming. It’s awesome. … This is my final farewell. This has been a wonderful journey.”
Duncan, who missed the previous three games because of a sprained left ankle, played 34 minutes against the Jazz.
“It felt good, it’s feeling better and better,” he said. “Yesterday, I practiced and it felt good. I feel fine right now.”
Manu Ginobili added 18 points to help the Spurs beat the Jazz for the 14th straight time. Hedo Turkoglu had 14 points and Bruce Bowen 12. Tony Parker, also back after missing the first seven games with a sprained left ankle, scored nine points.
“It was nice to win,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “Tim and Tony did great. Tim did better than Tony, as Tony hasn’t played for a long time. The only way for him to get back into shape is playing. The treadmill doesn’t do it. The team enjoys playing together. There’s no other way to play to be successful.”
“This is a championship ballclub, they’re smart and very well prepared,” Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. “We haven’t played well here and it’s a credit to them. Somebody has got to step up and play. I know we’re a young team, but you have to be prepared.”
After trailing by as many as 18 points, Utah cut it to 80-74 on Curtis Borchardt’s free throw with 49 seconds remaining.
After Collins made it 81-76 on two free throws with 24.8 seconds to play, Malik Rose, Parker and Turkoglu made six free throws in the final 24 seconds for San Antonio.
“It was a great game,” Turkoglu said. “I’m happy for the win. We did a good job without Tim and Tony, and to have them back, we will do even better.”
The Spurs, who snapped a two-game losing streak, outscored Utah 24-9 in the second quarter and led 41-33 at halftime behind 13 points by Duncan. Bowen had10 points in the third quarter as San Antonio built its lead to 65-51.
