Dallas extended its winning streak against New Orleans to 15 with a 97-88 home victory on Dec. 3. The Mavericks haven’t lost to the Hornets since Nov. 17, 1999, when the franchise was located in Charlotte.
“It’s very frustrating,” said P.J. Brown, in his sixth season with the Hornets. “We can’t figure these guys out. We don’t know what it will take to get over the hump.”
Dallas suffered a last-second 111-109 loss to Golden State on Friday night.
Mavericks coach Avery Johnson has emphasized defense, but Dallas didn’t defend well down the stretch and has lost all five games this season when allowing 110 or more points.
The Hornets lost for the third time in four games, 111-84 to San Antonio on Thursday night.
New Orleans’ starting backcourt of Paul, who leads all rookies in scoring, and J. R. Smith combined to go 6-for-20 from the floor for 14 points.
