Given how their first two games have gone, the Portland Trail Blazers are probably glad to be home.
Portland will try to avoid its first 0-3 start in nearly 20 years when it begins its home schedule against the winless Atlanta Hawks.
The Blazers have not started a season with three straight losses since going 0-4 in 1986-87.
Portland has won seven straight from Atlanta since a 101-92 loss on Jan. 8, 2002. At home, the Blazers have taken six straight from the Hawks since a 99-90 setback on Dec. 15, 1997.
Portland did not score in the final 4:38 and shot just 33 percent from the floor Thursday in a 107-68 loss to the Denver Nuggets, and the frustration was evident.
“I don’t like losing like this,” said Darius Miles, who led Portland with just 13 points. “This was ridiculous. This team was loafing in the fourth quarter.”
Miles, picked third overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2000, had 32 points Wednesday night in a season-opening 90-86 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has averaged just 11 points per game in his career against Atlanta.
Atlanta was outmatched for the second straight game Friday, suffering a 92-77 loss to the Clippers.
Joe Johnson, acquired from Phoenix in a sign-and-trade, has also struggled. In two games, he has scored 27 points on 35 percent shooting (10-for-28) with eight assists. A season ago, he averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 39.5 minutes per game with the Suns.
The Hawks have been outscored by an average of 20 points in their first two games.
