ORLANDO, FLORIDA (TICKER) —The Minnesota Timberwolves try to post a fifth straight victory and further their grip on fourth place in the Western Conference when they visit the Orlando Magic on Thursday at the TD Waterhouse Centre.
The Timberwolves have a 1 1/2-game lead over Portland for the fourth playoff berth and home-court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Minnesota has 10 games remaining and Portland 11.
On Tuesday, Minnesota led by as many as 26 points in a 108-91 defeat of Miami at the Target Center.
Wally Szczerbiak and Kevin Garnett both scored 26 points, with Szczerbiak connecting on 10-of-13 shots and Garnett 10-of-15. Troy Hudson added 17 points for Minnesota, which outrebounded Miami, 52-33.
The Magic rallied from 20 points down to defeat New Orleans on the road on Wednesday, 97-95.
Orlando, which has won five of six, moved into a tie with Boston for sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with the win.
The Timberwolves defeated the Magic in Minnesota on November 1, 111-105. Minnesota never has swept Orlando, which is 11-2 all time at home in the series.
