HOUSTON (TICKER) —The Houston Rockets try to defeat the San Antonio Spurs twice in the same season for the first time in five years on Sunday when the Central Division teams meet at the Compaq Center.

Houston and San Antonio have split two meetings this season, with each team winning on its home floor. The Spurs had won 14 of the previous 15 meetings with the Rockets, who have not won two games in a season series since the 1997-98 campaign.

The struggling Rockets have lost eight of their last 12 games and completed a 1-2 road trip with a 100-98 overtime loss to the Washington Wizards on Thursday.

Cuttino Mobley scored 24 points and Maurice Taylor had 21 of his 23 in the fourth quarter for Houston, which overcame a 24-point second-half deficit to force an extra session.

Rookie Yao Ming had 16 points and 11 rebounds and fellow All-Star Steve Francis scored just eight points on 1-of-13 shooting for the Rockets, who have gone into overtime four times in their last six games.

Houston has lost three of its last four home games and is 20-10 at the Compaq Center this season. The Rockets are ninth in the Western Conference, one-half game behind the Phoenix Suns.

San Antonio has won 12 of its last 13 games, including a 108-100 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.

Tony Parker tied a career-high with 32 points and Tim Duncan collected 18 points and 15 rebounds despite sitting out much of the first half due to foul trouble as the Spurs won their third straight.

Stephen Jackson finished with 14 points and tied a career high with five steals as San Antonio collected a season-high 16 steals.

The Spurs have won eight of their last nine road games and are 17-13 away from the SBC Center for the league’s third-best road record.
