Nash had 29 points and 10 assists as Dallas maintained its grip on the best record in the NBA with a 95-87 victory Thursday over San Antonio, ending the Spurs’ nine-game winning streak.
Dirk Nowitzki, who was listed as a game-time decision with a sprained right ankle, finished with 22 points, marking the 13th time in 15 games he has reached the 20-point plateau. Michael Finley added 19 points and eight rebounds.
Dallas held a 47-37 cushion on the glass, improving to 14-2 when it outrebounds its opponent. The Mavericks are 21-1 when holding their opponents to 89 points or less.
This is the fourth and final meeting this season after the Mavericks swept the first three matchups. Nowitzki poured in 26 points and Nash added 20 as Dallas cruised to a 107-86 rout on January 21.
Houston is tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. Glen Rice scored 23 points and Cuttino Mobley added 22 as the Rockets had little trouble in a 107-89 victory at Phoenix on Wednesday.
The Rockets have lost 10 of their last 15 games and four of their last six at home.
