G Rafer Alston, originally penciled in as the third point guard, started his fifth straight game Saturday. And for the second straight night, he logged over 40 minutes. He played 40 in Philadelphia Friday, 44 against the Celtics Saturday. "I'm feeling great. I'm in great shape to do it. I'm glad and thankful for it. Too many turnovers from me, though," said Alston, who had a season-high 20 points but committed six turnovers. |

With Devin Harris nursing a groin injury, coach Larry Frank will give most of the playing time at point guard to Alston, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Recommendation: Harris and Keyon Dooling (hip) are both out, leaving Alston as the only true point guard on the roster. Terrence Williams and Courtney Lee could see some ball-handling duties, but Frank would prefer to play Alston "48 plus" minutes per game than hand over the responsibilities to one of his younger guards. Alston was great in his first start, totaling 20 points and eight assists in Saturday's loss to the Wizards. It's unlikely he'll be able to perform that well on a nightly basis, but the minutes will be there for the 33-year-old while Harris is out. |
