Most assists, blocks and steals in an NBA Finals game by player

These are the players who have recorded the most assists, blocks and steals in a single NBA Finals game. My favorite NBA team, the New Jersey Nets, has played in 10 NBA Finals games. The most assists a Nets player had in one of those games is 12 (Jason Kidd(notes)), the most blocks is four (Aaron Williams) and the most steals is four (Kenyon Martin(notes)). All those totals are well short of making these lists.

For the record, the all-time most assists in a playoff game is 24 (Magic Johnson and John Stockton). The most blocks in a playoff game is 10 (Mark Eaton and Hakeem Olajuwon), and the most steals in a playoff game is 10 by Allen Iverson(notes).

The 2011 NBA Finals features the Miami Heat vs the Dallas Mavericks. I don't think either team has a player who can dish out enough assists to make that list. I also don't think either team has a good enough shot blocker to make that list. But the steals list is certainly within reach for LeBron James(notes) and Dwyane Wade(notes) (if healthy) on the Heat and Jason Kidd and Jason Terry(notes) of the Mavs. Dirk Nowitzki(notes) once had six steals in a playoff game, but it was back in 2001.

T-2. Magic Johnson - 20

On June 12, 1991, Magic again had 20 assists in the fifth and final game of the NBA Finals vs the Chicago Bulls. Magic also had 16 points and 11 rebounds in the game to record a triple-double. Despite Magic's great play, the Lakers lost the game, 108-101, and the series in five games.

Most Blocked Shots in an NBA Finals Game

1. Dwight Howard(notes) - 9

On June 11, 2009, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic had nine blocked shots in the fourth game of the NBA Finals vs the Lakers. Howard also had 16 points and 21 rebounds in the game, but it was not enough as the Lakers won, 99-91. The Lakers also won the series in five games.

The following players all had eight blocks in an NBA Finals game, Bill Walton (1977), Hakeem Olajuwon (1986) , Patrick Ewing (1994) and Shaquille O'Neal(notes) (2001).

Horry also had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the game, as the Rockets won, 117-106. They swept the Magic in four games. Robert Horry played in more playoff games than any other player in NBA history, and won seven championships.
