Top five Irish NBA players

One thing I always enjoy on St. Patrick's Day is heading out to a bar to catch some pro basketball action. One thing I've always wondered was who are some of the best Irish-American NBA players? Well, If you've wondered the same thing, wonder no more as I present to you the top five Irish-American NBA players ever. Spoiler alert, Shaquille O'Neal(notes) isn't one of them (although with that name, he definitely is an honorary member).

John Stockton - Easily one of the best point guards in NBA history, Stockton spent his entire 19-year career with the Utah Jazz. Stockton was a ten time All Star, led the NBA in assists nine times and is also the all time assist leader with 15,806 dishes. If that wasn't enough, Stockton is also the NBA career leader in steals with 3,265. Stockton retired after the 2003 season and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.

Kevin McHale - The great Boston Celtic spent his entire 13 year career in Boston before retiring after the 1993 season. McHale was a key player for the Celtics, helping them win three NBA Championships during his career there. Twice was McHale awarded the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year and was a seven time All Star. McHale was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Chris Mullin - Mullin was one of the top scorers in the league during his prime. He spent his first 12 seasons with the Golden State Warriors before playing three years with the Indiana Pacers, and then finally returning back to Golden State for his last year. Mullin averaged 18.2 points per game during his career and was a five time All Star.

Bill Walton - Walton was easily one of the best college players ever, if not THE best, before heading to the NBA. Walton put together a nice career which culminated in his Hall of Fame induction in 1993. Walton was a two time All Star and was also the NBA MVP during the 1977-78 season, and was the NBA Finals MVP during the 1976-77 season. Walton helped the Portland Trailblazers win a title in 1977 and the Boston Celtics in 1986.

Rick Barry - Barry put together an amazing career which saw him help the Golden State Warriors win an NBA Championship in 1975. Barry played 14 seasons in the pros, the majority of which were in Golden State, but also spent time with the Oakland Oaks, Washington Capitols, and New York Nets of the then ABA, before playing with Golden State and ending his career as a Houston Rocket. Barry was a 12 time All Star and also was the NBA Finals MVP during the 1974-75 season.
