Five Jeremy Lin Puns for a New York Knicks Loss: A Fan’s View
Lin, a New York Knicks point guard, has energized the Madison Square Garden faithful, helped coach Mike D'Antoni's job security and brought the best out of his teammates during the Knicks' recent five-game winning streak. It has been complete Lin-sanity in New York City.
Looking ahead, the Knicks have a good shot at extending the win-streak to at least eight, as they play three straight games against opponents with sub-.500 records.
They should have a fairly easy time this week with the Toronto Raptors (9-20), Sacramento Kings (10-17), and New Orleans Hornets (4-23), but the defending champion Dallas Mavericks (17-11) will be a tough test on Feb. 19.
When the Knicks do finally lose a game, the local New York newspapers will be scrambling for some crafty puns to fill the frontpages.
Here's a look at five original Jeremy Lin puns for a New York Knicks loss:
1) Opportunity Goes Out the Lin-dow
Lin averages 19.4 shots per game on in that five-game span, while Anthony averages 18.8 and Stoudemire attempts 15.5 in any given game. It has been an incredible nine-day run for Lin, but there's no way he'll keep taking close to 20 shots per game.
2) Lin-d Of The Lost
Lin looked to be wearing out on Feb. 11 when the Knicks edged the Minnesota Timberwolves, 100-98. He shot just 1-for-12 in the second half after seeing over 150 minutes of action on the floor against elite competition over the course of the week.
3) Jeremy Taught Lin-tro to Chemistry 101
Lin hasn't spent much time on the floor with Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire, so there will be a major adjustment period when the Knicks' stars return.
'Melo has been out with a groin injury since last week's victory over the Utah Jazz, and Stoudemire faced a family tragedy that caused him to miss four games in a row. Team chemistry will be the name of the game moving forward.
4) Lin-ing Streak Ends
Sooner or later, the Knicks are going to lose a game. Lin has been the hot topic of the New York sports world since last week, but there's no way he'll be able to keep up this pace.
Will Lin be a one-week wonder or will he be able to keep playing with energy even after Anthony and Stoudemire return? Time will tell if the upstart Knicks will be able to re-integrate their stars without losing the recent team chemistry they've built.
5) Knicks Fall Lin Trouble In Dallas
Lin scored 109 points in his first four starts, snapping an NBA record held by Allen Iverson for most points in NBA history in the first four starts of a career.
The Knicks won all four of those contests and Lin averaged 27.3 points over the span. When Anthony and Stoudemire return, his numbers will definitely go down as the team tries to reintegrate their stars.
