Gs Nelson, Paul honored by NBA
Guards Jameer Nelson of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets were honored as the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week on Monday.
Nelson earned the Eastern Conference award after helping lead the Magic to a 3-0 week, including wins over San Antonio and the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged a team-high 27.6 points, including a career-high 32 points in a 109-98 win over Golden State on December 15.
Paul won the Western Conference honor, averaging 23.7 points, 10.0 points and 4.3 rebounds as the Hornets also went 3-0. He set an NBA record by extending his streak with at least one steal to 107 games, breaking Alvin Robertson’s previous mark of 105.
Other Eastern Conference nominees were Boston’s Kendrick Perkins and Rajon Rondo, Charlotte’s Boris Diaw, Cleveland’s LeBron James and Delonte West and Miami’s Dwyane Wade.
Also nominated in the Western Conference were Golden State’s Jamal Crawford, Houston’s Tracy McGrady, Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire and Portland’s Brandon Roy.
