Bucks Team Report

GETTING INSIDE

It looks as if Joe Alexander(notes) won’t be returning to action anytime soon.

Alexander, the Bucks’ first-round draft pick in 2008, has been sidelined since the start of training camp with a hamstring injury. Bucks management and coaches have said Alexander has a strained hamstring, although sources in the organization said Alexander’s hamstring is actually torn.

In any event, Bucks officials and Alexander both agree that he won’t be ready to play until at least the end of December.

Alexander’s future with the team is shaky, at best. Bucks general manager John Hammond recently decided not to pick up the third-year option on Alexander’s contract, thus making him an unrestricted free agent in July.

Alexander, who played well in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and then at Tim Grgurich’s camp, was expected to compete for a starting spot at one of the forward positions this season.

Alexander, whom the Bucks drafted instead of New Jersey’s Brook Lopez(notes) and Sacramento’s Jason Thompson(notes), has been jogging in practice but has yet to do any sprinting or cutting.

Bucks 103, Grizzlies 98:   Milwaukee’s starting backcourt, Brandon Jennings(notes) and Charlie Bell(notes), played well Saturday night, especially in crunch time. Bell, who had a season-high 19 points, hit a clutch 3-pointer to give the Bucks a 93-90 advantage. Jennings, who finished with 26 points, then added two free throws to keep the Grizzlies at bay. Jennings had 24 of his points after halftime.

NOTES, QUOTES

• Bobcats managing member of basketball operations Michael Jordan attended the Bobcats-Bucks game at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee on Friday night and watched the Bucks’ sensational rookie point guard Brandon Jennings score 29 points. Afterward, Jordan told the Racine Journal Times he wasn’t ready to make any quick observations of Jennings. “I haven’t seen enough of him to make any comment,” Jordan said.

• Saturday night’s game against the Grizzlies was the first of four consecutive road games for the Bucks. They will play at San Antonio on Monday, at New Orleans on Wednesday and at Oklahoma City on Friday.

• The Bucks have been a different team after halftime in recent games. Against the Grizzlies on Saturday night, the Bucks outscored their opponents 31-22 in the third quarter. In the previous three games, the Bucks outscored their opponents 122-72—or 30.5 to 18.

Quote To Note:   “It’s cool, but at the end of the day, when I’m done playing, I want to be the next Brandon Jennings. I’m my own person. Allen Iverson(notes) and I are two different players. I’m more of a true point guard; he’s more of a scorer. I’m not saying he doesn’t like to get his teammates involved, but the dude can score for being 6 foot.”—Rookie PG Brandon Jennings, on being compared to his hero.

ROSTER REPORT

Rotation:   Starters—Point guard Brandon Jennings, Shooting guard Charlie Bell, Small forward Carlos Delfino(notes), Power forward Ersan Ilyasova(notes), Center—Dan Gadzuric(notes). Bench—Point guard Roko Ukic(notes), Power forward Hakim Warrick(notes), Point guard Luke Ridnour(notes), Center Kurt Thomas(notes), Shooting guard Jodie Meeks(notes).

Player Notes:

• F Hakim Warrick came off the bench against the Grizzlies, his former team, and scored eight and grabbed three rebounds in 18 minutes Saturday night. Warrick was the Grizzlies’ first-round pick in the 2005 NBA draft—the 19th overall pick - and played four seasons with the Grizzlies before signing a one-year contract with the Bucks over the summer.

• G Jodie Meeks’ shooting woes continue. The Bucks’ second-round draft pick went 1-for-5 against the Grizzlies. In his previous five games, Meeks connected on just eight of 34 shots from the field, a feeble 23.5 percent.

• G Roko Ukic finally got some playing time Saturday night against the Grizzlies. The veteran point guard, who had back-to-back DNP-CDs, played 9:33. He had two points and an assist.

Medical Watch:

• G Michael Redd(notes) (strained patellar tendon) missed his ninth consecutive game on Nov. 21. Redd is hoping to return to action Nov. 25 when the Bucks play at New Orleans.

• F Luc Richard Mbah a Moute(notes) (sprained left foot) traveled with the team to Memphis but didn’t play in the Nov. 21 game. He is listed as day-to-day.

• C Andrew Bogut(notes) (left leg sprain and contusion) will be sidelined for about four weeks after getting injured in the Nov. 18 game.

With Bogut out for a month, we'll really get to see just how important Jennings is to the Bucks. Bogut may not be flashy, but he is the anchor on D and off the glass and is the epitome of a team player (not mediocre Wade V - he's never scored as much because no-one would give him the ball his 1st 4 seasons!). Please, can we see more of Thomas and less of Gadz in his absence?!

Wow!! Jenning for Rookie of the year!! I just hope when Redd comes back it doesn't affect his play!! Redd's a great player but he hurt a lot! As for trading Redd you can't trade to within the division!!

What?? Warrick starts at PF, not Thomas. Also, no mention of Jodie Meeks' production in the preseason. He should be more of a factor than Bell. Jennings has played well for a 19 year old in spite of his shooting. Gadzuric may be back; 8 and 10 in 12 minutes, 3 fouls, too, but we will take that every game. If Delfino doesn't work out at SF, I put Ersan there as Thomas can back up Warrick. Last year's team had more name players but they were still 2 games under .500 before the injuries. I think that besides health, the bench will determine how well the team does, so the rotation will be critical.

"acendo," it's painfully obvious you're either high or English isn't your first language as you and all the rest of the arm chair coaches here are that for a very obvious reason...you don't have the skill, courtesy and brains to be anything else but second rate hacks! Get a life dude as you make no sense whatsoever!

I admit Redd was a great scorer....with a healthy knee. His defense was already suspect. See how that knee is this year. They should have traded him last year before the knee injury. Now he will prove to be a liability and a salary cap eater. The Bucks are stuck with him and have to make the most of it.

I liked what the bucks did early in letting villanueva go, he couldn't defend anybody. signing llyasova a good move, jefferson trade ok, picking up johson in trade good move. now the dumb ass moves trading johnson and weems for delfino and ukic beyond stupid. not signing sessions who is much better than any other gaurd the bucks have who can also play the point.

This team is much improved. People need to remember that Redd had a serious knee injury and I question whether or not he will get his quickness back. The shot will always be there. If he is truly healthy he may now be surrounded by a better/more athletic starting 5. I will miss Charlie V, but I think the bucks can replace his offensive production. If Bogut can stay healthy this team might just be worth watching. I look forward to the new season!

The Bucks will be a a playoff team this year. I like all of John Hammond's decisions so far, he has not signed any players to idiotic contracts and he never will. There are enough bad GMs out there that will make him look good by taking our bad contracts/players and giving him the tools to build consistent winners. He passed the first major test by not giving money to Charlie V or Sessions.

I hope Sonny Weems gets an oppurtunity with the bucks. He appears to have tons of talent, perfect size, excellent shooting hands, ala Vince Carter athleticism and maybe the bucks can dump Charlee (overpaid) Bell now. He is a good piece to keep with the rest of the young guns ( Jennings, Meeks, A Mhoute, Warrick). Maybe the team can start looking for a center that can back up or even replace (bad back) Bogut instead of Dan (seriously overpaid) Gadzurics, what a waste of money... If the Bucks can develop Redd why not Weems, he looks to have all the tools needed and I bet he can be much better than Redd himself. I can see the future for the Bucks with the young guys the team have right now, Mr. Hammond just made me a believer. Now, he's not done yet, there's still a few dead weights that needs to be jettisoned.

keep Jennings, Meeks and get rid of everybody. Look Bieds, the Bucks did better in 2008 than the previuos year when your Michael Redd was playing. Anybody can score twenty or more if they get the same amount of touches as your preciuos Redd. Bottom line is the record tells it all and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he can't carry a team and he didn't do jack in the olympics and I don't get it why they didn't pay Ray Allen to stay but they paid this clown all that money for nothing...
