Lakers C Mihm has season-ending anke surgery

El SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) - Los Angeles Lakers center Chris Mihm on Tuesday underwent successful surgery on his right ankle and will miss the rest of the season.

Mihm initially injured the ankle on March 12 and played just one more game last season.

The 7-foot center underwent surgery on July 26, causing him to miss training camp, the entire exhibition schedule and all eight regular-season games.

Mihm’s right foot will be completely immobilized for four to five weeks. He then will begin therapy and rehabilitation while wearing a boot for another five to six weeks. He is expected to make a complete recovery in approximately six to eight months.

In 59 games last season, Mihm averaged a career-best 10.2 points on 50.1 percent shooting from the field. He averaged 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in a career-high 26.1 minutes.

A first-round pick of the Chicago Bulls in 2000, Mihm has averaged 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in two seasons with the Lakers.
