Knicks waive F Jalen Rose
NEW YORK (Ticker) - Jalen Rose’s days in New York are over.
The New York Knicks on Monday waived Rose and reportedly will buy out the final year of his contract, which would pay the veteran swingman $16.9 million.
The New York Times reported on its web site Monday morning that the Knicks and Rose are nearing an agreement on a buyout.
“We’re close to reaching an agreement,” Rose’s agent Arn Tellem told the paper. “My expectation is it could be done as early as tomorrow.”
Acquired from the Toronto Raptors last February, Rose became expendable this offseason when the Knicks signed free-agent forward Jared Jeffries and selected forward Renaldo Balkman with the 20th overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Rose, 33, averaged 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 72 games last season with New York and Toronto. A 12-year veteran, Rose has averaged 14.7 points in 894 career games with New York, Toronto, Chicago, Indiana and Denver.
