Pistons to re-sign Prince to 4-year deal

Tayshaun Prince(notes) will sign a four-year, $27 million-plus contract to stay with the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

For the Pistons, convincing Prince to re-sign was the franchise’s No. 1 priority, and something of a coup considering the tumultuous past two seasons for him and the longstanding core of veteran players. With the market for starting small forwards thinning, the Pistons would’ve been in a bind had Prince decided to leave.

Nevertheless, the new ownership of Tom Gores, the hiring of coach Lawrence Frank and the bond with general manager Joe Dumars helped sway Prince back to the chance to finish his career with Detroit.

Prince had significant interest throughout the NBA – including the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers – but ultimately will sign with the Pistons on Friday.

This will be Prince’s 10th season with the Pistons. He won the 2004 NBA championship with Detroit and is an Olympic gold medalist and four-time member of the All-Defense second team. He's averaged nearly 13 points in 661 career games. Detroit also will re-sign Jonas Jerebko(notes) to a four-year, $16 million deal and is now focused on trying to keep restricted free-agents guard Rodney Stuckey(notes).
