Anthony could walk after ’14 season
The three-year extension Carmelo Anthony(notes) negotiated with the New York Knicks contains an option that allows him to become a free agent after the 2013-14 season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Including the final season on his original contract, Anthony can make a little more than $82 million over the next four seasons.
The option allows Anthony to assess how much progress the Knicks have made in three years and is commonly used in contracts to give the player flexibility. If the NBA negotiates a new collective-bargaining agreement that significantly lowers maximum salaries, Anthony would be even less likely to exercise the option.
