PHOENIX (AP)—The Phoenix Suns on Monday were awarded the rights to center Jarron Collins(notes), who was waived last week by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The 6-foot-11 Collins is an eight-year NBA veteran who played for the Utah Jazz.

He has career averages of 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 480 games.

The 30-year-old Collins is the younger twin brother of Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collins(notes).

Phoenix opens its season Wednesday at the Los Angeles Clippers.

#26 if he is such a great rebounder why does Jason Kidd have a better rebound per mins then him, i meen u would think if u only play 17 min a game u would have a lot of energy and be able to grab a lot of boards, but yet Jason Kidd who has a career avg of 37 min a game still manages to get more rebounds per min.

So who gets "bumped" in order to put Collins on the bench? And do we really need three centers?

Some of you guys are idiots. I've watched Jarron since he started for the Jazz. I'm sad they let him go. He always brought energy when he came off the bench. He always played tough defense and rebounded with authority. When the jazz center got hurt they didn't miss a beat. He was definitely a Sloan type player. It's not his fault that the Jazz were able to get better players, but he always held his own on the court. StevePhillips

I saw Collins play for the Blazers this preseason. He seemed to position himself well defensively, hustled for rebounds and actually made some shots. For what Collins is, he's not that bad.

One of them has to come out first, right. Younger by a couple of seconds or minutes, I suppose.

he was in Utah for 8 years and he isnt that good. obvious indicator that he is strictly a locker room guy and a workhorse. good pickup for a team with little direction...

Collins is quite possibly the worst player in the NBA today. He has a lower rebounding and shot blocking rate than even Eddy Curry, but he still manages to also have a lower shooting percentage than 90% of the big men in the league. Maybe changing systems will allow him to show something he didn't in 8 years with the Jazz, but I doubt it. This guy couldn't get playing time when their starting frontcourt was Ostertag, Kirilenko, and Harpring.
