Spurs’ Jefferson dislocates thumb; X-rays negative

  • Print

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Spurs forward Richard Jefferson(notes) could miss the start of training camp after dislocating his right thumb.

Jefferson was injured Tuesday while working out at the Spurs’ practice facility. X-rays were negative, and the 29-year-old swingman is expected to be re-examined next week.

The Spurs called the injury minor. Training camp begins Sept. 29.

Jefferson was the marquee addition in a busy offseason for San Antonio, coming to the Spurs in a four-player deal with Milwaukee. He has not missed a game the past two seasons.

okay your just like every other spurs fan. you measure a teams greatness by their indivizual players talents. bynum may be overated in your eyes as a spurs fans, but for the lakers offense and defense he is incrdebely crucial. now everybody knows that the lakers are not a great defensive team, but they are a good defensive team. good eneough to win a title. artest isn't washed up and you know he isn't. just last summer when he went to houston you spurs fans were acting like he was the second coming of jesus. you hoped that he would take the lakers out because you knew that your team couldn't. and now that he's a laker he's all of a sudden washed up???? and hell yeah of course he can't stop kobe, who can??? kobe's unstoppable and artest knows that. so you can sit here and pysche yourself out until kingdom come. YOU KNOW DAMN WELL THAT THE SPURS CAN NEVER BEST THE LAKERS. THE MOST THEY CAN DO IS NIP AT THEIR ANKLES, AND VERY SOON THE LAKERS WILL CRUSH THE SPURS UNDER THE HEEL OF THEIR BOOT.

As a spurs fan i can say kobe is a great player...but lets be honest Lakers winning it again?? pfft yeah right, Spurs are old but not that old...last season it was basically parker and duncan carrying the team Manu was hurt more then half the season....expect nothing less then the all star to return this year...one thing we lacked was offense, a bench, and rebounding....now with RJ and Manu returning , mason to the bench and dejuan blair to bang boards, those arent issues...lets be real lakers arent no deffensive team they outscored everyone, they pride themselves on offense, the only hustle defensive player minded player they had they lost(ariza), and artest a defensive stopper?? lets see did he stop kobe from winning a championship nope, kobe still put up 25 on him a night in the playoffs, so he aint slowing no one down...bynum is so overrated its not even funny, he should be tearing it up like dwight howard with the height that he has, instead he looks like a taller version of shaq out there; slow and uncoordinated....gasol is good he's no duncan but he's good and odom isnt consistant he either is on or off...we can talk smack all we want on this, but what it all comes down too is who comes to play this season, lakers are good spurs are good cavs are good so we'll just see when the season starts

the spurs just simply can't match up with the lakers, and i'm about to tell you why. before i start i would just like to mention that i got nuthin but love for the spurs organization, and i refuse to call any of their players a derogatory name. (which is more than i can say for spurs fans concerning kobe) now here's the truth. ron artest coming to the lakers immediately boosted them to number one status because number one ron artest is an all star. but when you say that people immediately think of the lakers adding him for his scoring, which is incredibly flase. the lakers added ron artest because of his DEFENSE. he has been the leagues best one on one defender for the last past 5 years. sure he's slowed down a bit, i'm not denying that. but he's still good enough to aggrivate the crap out of roy, lebron, pierce, carmelo, ginobli and every other small forward in the league. and you still don't have to help off of him. now when it concerns the lakers offense agaisnt the spurs defense, it's easy to expalin. you have kobe, artest, gasol and bynum (when healthy) who are all capable of playing and drawing attention to the post. duncan watches gasol, jefferson watches artest (mismatch) mason watches kobe (major major mismatch) and mcdeyss watches bynum (who if healthy, can be an extreme challenge for mcdeyss). you now have two players (potentially three) that the spurs will have to double. and the lakers offense is so challenging and crisp, that san antonio's defense won't work. now on the spurs offense is where the lakers also hurt you. tony parker and ginobli already had enough trouble scoring on bynum and gasol as it was, now you add artest in the back court with kobe, it's going to be impossible. they'll be shooting jumpers all night, which is what the lakers want them to do. now let's not forget odom, and we all know how he has simply toyed with evey spurs defender he's seen. so the bottom line is this, kobe/gasol/artest/odom/bynum is just going to be to hard for the spurs or any other team to beat. yeah sure they'll lose games, no more than 12 most likely. but i don't see them losing in the playoffs 4/7 times, i'm sorry i don't.

the spurs are in need to dump a few slugs . but they are going to be a top team . and it does not matter anyway. if # 24 in la la land still gets away with 3 off. fouls a quater as he has his whole stint in the nba and the other players get away with phony calls and no calls .it will be hard to beat the reffs . oops i mean the lakers . but if they come up with something new and call the games vers the lakers (with any team ) fair then the lakers can not even beat the bucks .

lakers couldnt find enough shots for gasol when ariza is there and now u tellin me u gonna add a 20 shot attempt per game guy and ur better?? at least ariza was a guy that didnt need shot and had range. artest gonna take either kobe or gasols shots and frankly i wudnt want him taken eithers. anyways at this stage u can argue artest is a better offensive than the defensive reputation he had b4 when he was younger. he makes them deeper yes but better we'll have to wait and see. spurs on the other hand got a guy to help tony parker carry the offensive burden when ginobbli aint on the court. celtics added sheed and daniels to strengthen a weak BENCH. IMO Celtics gotta be the favorites simply because our startin 5 won a ring the first year together and now on their 3rd year. Artest changes lakers whole dynamic.

Celtics/Spurs Finals- KG vs TD its about time. BRING IT!!!

here we go again these Turd Fans talking again. listen just keep your mind on Denver and win your conference. as for getting RJ that is good you needed that. becos you old guys are just old. # 21 hahaha couldn't even finish games last year. let alone run the floor much. now as for the LA LAkers. to much depth. and even though Ariza is gone. Artest is much more the allstar. to much inside and to much outside. LA Lakers again. Turds not... so stop your wishful thinking.

jefferson is a good addition to d spurs.. he can score at least 18pts. per game, and he gives the athleticism the spurs need..spurs lack a center though, they must re-sign drew gooden or perhaps get a legit center who can at least play defense and rebound.. matt bonner must develop a post-up game.hes a good shooter and if he can post-up he will be another threat in d paint. the spurs must stay healthy specially the big three.. lakers-spurs in d western conference finals..

As much as I hate to admit it. Spurs are going to be a hell uva team to deal with this year. Good for Milwaukee to free up some space and try to overhaul the roster, I think they already started out @#$%y in True Milwaukee Buck form by drafting Jennings and they will probably pick up @#$%y free agents, but it will still be exciting to see who they will bring in or what they will do.

Camby and #21 down low would be hell to pay for the rest of the league. If the NBA lets that happen, #21 will end up with at least seven rings. Any center that can hold his own in the west would compliment #21 tremendously. All I have to say is Spurs 2010 champs!! Go Spurs Go!!!

Now the Lakers will get a true test in the Western conf. finals next year! If we pull off a trade and get Camby there is no way the Lakers will match up with the SPURS. RJ was a damn good pick-up and probably should have gotten him last year. Any1 who says he is a bum is out of their minds. Dude is a legit 20 point scorer on any given night. Do u know how hard it is to average almost 20 a game in the NBA for a whole career thus far?! This provides us perfect balance from the perimeter. Ain't no way Kobe can check RJ and Manu at the same time. Too much quickness with Parker runnin the point and G. Hil off the bench. I believe Gooden will re-sign if he is smart and wants to contend for a ring. I have been a fan of 2 NBA teams in my 35 years on this earth. LAKERS and the SPURS. The true Lakers of the 80's would have steamrolled these Lakers that just won the ring! Kobe will never touch Jordan and will be lucky if he ever passes Magic in Laker Lore! Magic Johnson is my heart. I still believe that we can beat the Nuggets head up at 100% health. The only other team i am even remotely scared of is Portland. They are stacked from top to bottom and are only lacking in the experience category. The Mavs, Rockets, Hornets, Suns and Jazz are irrelevant in SPURS minds and will be swatted aside. We go fry big fish. The SPURS are 1 big man trade or pick-up away from besting the Lakers. So watch out Lakers...there will be no cake-walk to the title next year. Orlando was an anomaly...they weren't supposed to be there but they got hot at the right time. Don't forget, SHAQ is very motivated and LeBron is pissed off and that bodes ill for the rest of the league. They will punish any1 in the east, especially Boston and Orlando! The Finals will include the SPURS or Lakers and Cleveland or Orlando only if Boston has injuries! Duncan will retire with 5 rings and that is a guarantee! He already is the greatest power forward who ever played and will be untouchable and in the special top ten room in the Hall of Fame when he gets that 1 for the thumb! We just closed the gap alot LAKERS! What ya'll gonna do? UR move...GO SPURS GO! Always remember!1
