Raptors exercise option, keep G Marco Belinelli

TORONTO (AP)—The Toronto Raptors plan to keep Italian guard Marco Belinelli(notes) for another season.

The Raptors exercised the fourth-year team option on Belinelli’s contract on Thursday, two days before the deadline.

Belinelli, whose contract is now guaranteed through the 2010-11 season, was the 18th pick in the 2007 draft. He was acquired by Toronto in an offseason trade with the Golden State Warriors.

The 23-year-old Belinelli scored 10 points in 19 minutes in a season-opening win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

The dumbest thing one can ever do is making the SAME mistake twice while the whole world know it! That's exactly what the Warriors has been doing. Don Nelson screwed up the Warriors, put the organization many years backwards, now they hired him & paid huge $$$. Can you be any dumber than that?

Warriors were and always be a francise of loosers because of the dumb deals and trades they make.
Team owner's got to go team GM's got to go and so on and so forth.
Belinelli was NEVER really given a chance to play consistently with NELLIE and when he did HE did decently good.
NELLIE got him as a first round pick AND HARDLY EVER USED HIM...and now he gets rid of him?
    NOW that was AWSOME RIGHT?
    Get rid of JACKSON..and MAGETTE.

Hey Raps- We have respect for you over here in California especially for Bosh. Raps are a cool team.
I had season tickets to the Warriors last year so I know everything there is to know about the world so listen up.
    - Marco single handedly helped the Warriors win over the Celtics last year by scoring points, playing strong defense and taking charges 3x against R.Allen. However, that's all he did last year.... The rest of the games he was in he did not do much. I feel you will get much of the same. Belenelli needs to put on 50 pounds learn to jump higher and get rebounds OR Go to EURO basketball.
    Thanks, happy weekend
    Cheers

I think, deccribing Belinelli as an "italian" guard is a roundabout way of indicating that he is a product of the European system and not an NCAA product.
