Pacers pick up options on Hibbert, Rush

  • Print

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—The Indiana Pacers have picked up the options on starters Roy Hibbert(notes) and Brandon Rush(notes).

The Pacers made the announcement Sunday in a news release.

Both players were chosen in the first round of the 2008 draft and acquired through trades.

Hibbert, a 7-foot-2 center from Georgetown, averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds last season. He was part of the trade that sent Jermaine O’Neal(notes) to Toronto.

Rush, a guard from Kansas, averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds last season. He stepped in when Mike Dunleavy was injured and performed well enough to earn the starting job this season. He scored 29 points on back-to-back days in March.

I think we should keep all our young guys (the rookies and Hibbert and Rush). Im not sold on Ford being the guy we want him to be, but we don't have much else. I would definitely like us to trade Murphy now while his value is high. Then maybe later in the season or during the offseason, trade Dunleavy. If we can get rid of Foster as well, we would be in great rebuilding shape.

Not sure if all of this is plausible, but getting rid of all those guys (Foster, Ford, Dunleavy, and Murphy) would clear up around 35 million in cap space (all of these guys will be off the books after next season if we cant trade them). Im not sure what we could get for Foster, but the other 3 have legitimate trade value. With the kind of free agent class expected next year, we could get another scorer and some front court help. Couple that with a crop of young players, a few draft picks and some vets for depth, and we could be a serious contender.

Sell the farm, lets go get Lebron!

Larry Bird SUCKS and needs to be taken out back and put out of his misery. The Pacers have been garbage ever since his non managerial ass went to the front office. Pathetic trades and an inferior, clueless, and utterly useless head coach seem to be the ebb and flow these days. Herb and Dean Simon need to wise up and FIRE LARRY BIRD other than that you're just treating symptoms instead of getting rid of the problem at it's source.

yeap they need to clean house. They dont have enough 'good' players to win a championship. This team has gone down hill since Bird stepped down from coaching it.

i do agree with a trade but not everyone. the trade would include ford. hes good but hes too small and not the greatest shooter. i would like to see price play. i would trade dunleavy and ford. we just need one more all star then we got it. that could be rush or maybe maybe hibbert. im up n down with that kid but rush kinda reminds me of ray allen. gooooo pacers!!!!!
