Orlando’s Vince Carter sprains left ankle vs. Nets

  • Print

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Orlando’s Vince Carter(notes) sprained his left ankle in the second quarter against his former New Jersey Nets teammates on Friday and left the game.

A Magic spokesman said Carter’s return to the game in which he scored 16 points was questionable. He was not on the bench for the start of the second half.

Carter was hurt with about 3:05 left in the quarter when he stepped on the foot of former Nets teammate Devin Harris(notes) as he dribbled near the top of the key. The 11-year veteran, who was acquired from New Jersey in the offseason, immediately fell to the floor and clutched his ankle.

Play was not stopped until Yi Jianlian(notes) scored a layup for the Nets at the other end of the floor and the Magic brought the ball back into the frontcourt.

Carter lay on the court for about a minute before limping to the Magic bench. He was briefly treated and then went back to the Orlando locker room.

Carter was having a spectacular game against his former teammates. He drove down the right side of the lane for a slam dunk on the opening possession and shot 5 of 7 in the first quarter for 12 points.

Carter and forward Ryan Anderson(notes) were shipped to Orlando on the day of the NBA draft for Courtney Lee(notes), Rafer Alston(notes) and Tony Battie(notes).

Anthony clearly doesn't know that we didn't pay him much of anything, or that he is only out for a few days and will probably play Sunday at Toronto.

You should never be happy about an injury to anyone, ever. It's bad sportsmanship, and just terrible from a humane standpoint.

Sorry bro but your the retard. Carter played 7 seasons in Toronto and 5 in New Jersey. What is 5+7=? Thats right 12. Hes played 12 seasons. Learn to count. Yes he has appeared in 777 games, but thats through 12 seasons. 64 games a season. Do a little research before you speak. Foot in the mouth syndrome runs ragged around here.

let me help you guys out on the vinsanity tip, # 17 he's only been in the league 11 years, you can't count this year, and # 14 since you made the comparison to pierce and kolby here are the numbers for ya= carter games played 777 for a avg of 71 games played a year not injury prone, points per game 23.5, rebounds 5.5 per, assist 4.3 per and shoots 45% from the field, peirce 813 games played for a avg of 74 games a year, points 22.9,rebounds 6.3,assist 3.9, and 44% shooting, kolby 948 games played for a avg of 73 per year, points 25.1, reb 5.3,assist 4.6, and 45% shooting, so as you can see vinsanity has a career just as good if not better than the both only difference is those two have had the teammates and the coaching to win the rings they have, so before you post dumb @#$% do your homework, retards.

Ok I'll start making references to players stats for the last five years then if that makes you happy. Nothing before that counts. Richard makes the rules around here. Get a life dude. I said career. You come out and say last 4 years. Hes proven throughout his CAREER that he isn't durable. Ooops I forgot that only the last 5 years count.

So I guess since Vince was unhappy in Toronto he got injured right? Then what happens when he becomes unhappy with the Magic? Your holding double standards there fella. Yes I saw the game. I saw the dunks. I'm not taking anything away from Carter. Hes a helluva scorer. But he has durability problems. Thats all I'm sayin.

Comment number 16.. Carter has been in the league for 12 years ok. In his career he only averages 64 games a season. You bring up the past four seasons but why? His career which is 12 years not 4, hes been a very injury prone player. But hey look at the bright side, hes 32, he can only get better.. hahahaha

Joe you can tell your a Magic fan. The Celtics not only signed Rasheed Wallace who stretches the floor and Marquis Daniels who averaged 13.6 ppg last year. But we also signed Shelden Williams, who has by all accounts been very good for the Celtics so far. Makes the Celtics forget about Leon Powe. Also you can have all the depth you want with your bench buddy. We still have the better starting 5.

Comment number 11... "last time I checked Carter was not that old". When did you check, six years ago? The guy is 32. And he hasn't had the kind of career say a Kobe Bryant or Paul Pierce has had. Hes had a very injury prone career. Hes a very old 32. Hes got alot of miles on those knees, why do you think he wears the knee pads like Shaq? I can't say anything about age because I'm a Celtics fan. But my players have proven throughout their respective careers that they are durable. VC hasn't been durable sorry dude.

Oh yea dont forget about Ryan Anderson who is very underated, Brandon Bass, Matt Barnes, and a fresh Jason William after a year off. Plus the re-signing of Gortat. Pietris off the bench all while Lewis is still suspended. Ha!!!! Who did clevland add??? Shaq=old, Anthony Parker=streaky shooter, and Jamario Moon=no comment. Boston??? Rasheed ok he can strech the floor and oooooooooo Marquis Daniel yeah hes ok but they are not as deep as the Magic thats for damn sure.

I smell a bunch of hater, last time I checked Carter was not that old. If you think Shaq is the answer for Cleveland your dead wrong, they will play way to slow and when Lebron goes to the bench so do their point. Ill give Boston their credit they look good. Its just a sprain, Vince will be back and so will the Magic. In the ECF that is. Hi Haters!!!!

Funny thing is when I posted on a Magic board a few days back an Orlando fan was very naive in telling me that "Vince Carter has been very healthy the past four seasons". Well I guess he forgot the 8 seasons before that. This is a nightmare for Magic fans. You paid this man a lot of money to come in a be your main scoring option. First it will be his ankle, then it will be his knee, then its gonna work its way up to his vagina. Hes a good scorer and all, but hes not a durable player in the least. Frailness must run in his family because T-Mac has the same exact problems. But I'm a happy man today. 3-0 feels good. Go Celtics!!
