Judge: Maid’s suit against Kobe Bryant can proceed

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP)—A judge in California has ruled that Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant’s(notes) former housekeeper can continue her wrongful discharge case but can’t sue for emotional distress.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Kirk Nakamura also ruled Thursday that Bryant and his wife Vanessa can pursue their countersuit against Maria Jimenez for violating a confidentiality agreement by talking to reporters about the family.

The judge says Jimenez cannot sue for invasion of privacy because she knew about the video cameras in the Bryants’ house. Her attorney, William Vogeler, says the ruling is still a victory for his client because the case can go forward.

Jimenez says she was denied health insurance and was forced to quit because her employers demeaned and humiliated her.

    Maria Jimenez claims in a lawsuit filed today that Vanessa Bryant, wife of basketball star Kobe Bryant, has been rather mean to her recently.

    Specifically, the angry maid says the wife of the NBA's reigning MVP called her "lazy, slow dumb, a f---ing liar, and a f---ing piece of sh-t."

    Kobe and his wife are being sued by their former housekeeper, who claims Vanessa Bryant was repeatedly and incredibly abusive of her.

    In the lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Orange County, Maria Jimenez claims Vanessa actually accused her of stealing her (mouth) retainer.

    Jimenez says Vanessa "badgered, harassed and humiliated" her "by yelling, screaming and criticizing her in front of Kobe, their children, employees and other people in the house," and she threatened to quit but Kobe talked her out of it.

    Maria Jimenez, a 48-year-old immigrant originally from Peru, alleges Vanessa Bryant badgered and harassed her, and forced her to perform demeaning tasks. Jimenez filed the wrongful-termination lawsuit March 20 in Orange County Superior Court.

    You must have lost your freaking mind. Kobe has class.. WTF?, Kobe has honor... WFT? Kobe has class... WTF?
    Kobe aint got any of that. He is an over payed, over hyped arogant POS who for whatever reason was blessed with great talent, second only to MJ and Oscar Robinson in the history of the NBA, but he certainly does not have the traits you describe.

    This case though, he will win. It is a pretty stupid case and just someone trying to get money. If the housekeeper didn't like her compensation or the working conditions then she should get off her ass, go to college and get a better job, or go back Mexico or wherever she is from.

    People putting down the Bryants for not paying for health insurance obviously have never paid for housekeeping services and don't know what they're talking about. Invariably, the housekeeper wants all of her money up front and when asked about health insurance, they almost always decline and say: "If your going to buy me health insurance, just give me the cash and I'll buy what I think I need." People who do this kind of work need every dollar for their living expenses. Sometimes a family has to compete with others seeking that help and the one who pays more take-home pay always wins out over the family offering health benefits. It's always easy to criticize when you don't know the facts.

    kobe is plainly a @#$%y person. good baller... not like mike though, but good. just a @#$%y person. of course Laker fans will back him and treat him like a (false) God. its easy to back him when the team is doing good because anything he does negatively gets tossed out the window as a Laker fan would just revert to the fact that the team has won a few champs over the recent years. so what. if management didnt surround him with talent he'd be as good as Iverson and the Lakers would be nada. i'm a Warriors fan and i'm glad he isnt on my team or else i'd turn away. i guess i'm happier with Nelly runnin the show. but Kobe is still just a @#$%y person.
