Cavs’ Moon returns from abdominal injury

  • Print

MIAMI (AP)—Cleveland forward Jamario Moon(notes) returned to the court Monday night, checking in as a reserve during the first quarter of the Cavaliers’ game against the Miami Heat.

Moon hadn’t played since Jan. 3, and had missed 14 straight shots dating to Dec. 27 before getting hurt. Cavs coach Mike Brown said Moon was medically cleared in time for the team’s shootaround practice Monday morning, and the team made the decision to use Moon against one of his former teams not long before game time.

Moon came into Monday averaging 5.0 points for the Cavaliers this season.

Gambled? It's not a gamble if you know the profit will be greater than the expense. Anyhow, I've never been on a Lakers board because I have better things to do than to post on an overrated team's board

Man please, spare me the sorrow. You do it on Lakers boards all the time. Don't get all brand new since i'm telling the truth. The only reason Melo doesn't get the publicity Lebron gets is because Nike gambled 90milly in his name and them combined with the NBA's media and refs will make sure that amount is tripled before Lebron gets injured.. Just keeping it ONE HUNDRED...

Really, Kobe is hurting himself by playing with a broke finger. But, he still plays better than most of the NBA starters with that being said. I didn't say he's playing better than Lebron right now, but Kevin Durant is playing better than Lebron and he should be league MVP. You post your thoughts some where else Mr.James.

I really don't think Lebron will get a ring because Kobe is going to do to him what Jordan did to those other great players of his day... He won so many rings in their era that not too many were able to make their mark. Besides, lets be honest, with talent like John Wall coming out and Kevin Durant, and Tyreke Evans already in the league its going to be real unpredictable who'll win a ring from year to year. Lebron's knees will get bad in the next 5yrs like Vince Carter and Tracy Mcgrady from always driving, dunking, and taking a beating just to get the easy inside points....

Toya go post your thoughts on a Lakers board we don"t care to hear them!!! Against the cavs kobe had 31 pts on 31 shot attempts not good!!!!!! You can hang on to hobe all u want but a blind man could see that Lebron is the more complete basketball player right now! scoring, rebounding, assists!! To think other wise is delusional or ur just in denial!!!!!!!

Toya, Kobe is shooting about 35% recently. Replace some of those bricks with assists and the Lakers might be unstoppable.

Please someone answer this question... Why is it that when the Lakers lose a game or win by less than 5 pts the media prints that they aren't living up to standards and Kobe is losing his touch (with a broke finger). When the Cavaliers lose nothing is said about Lebron, it was his team mates fault. When the Cavaliers win by 5 pts or so Lebron gets so much praise for winning single handedly. I guess stars change with the seasons. Everybody's looking for the next one, no matter how good the present one is...

ok that makes a little more sense...but I think I would wait and see what happens in TORONTO before they go trying to get Brand...also the Cavs haven't renounced Wally or Smith so a % of their salaries is still on the books..Whether this is to maintain a minimum roster to avoid more tax or because they are talking is anyone's guess... I could live without Wally on the team but I still think they could use Smith to back up Varejao...and Z will probably take whatever they offer after they carried him at full salary through all of the missed years early in his career...If I was a GM looking to make room with expiring contracts the 21M dollar man would be my first choice how does this sound for a TD swap...Shaq for Brand...frees up 6M ..and doesn't hurt Philly next year...Wally gone...frees up the 6M i wanted to pay him..Z back at 6M next year frees up 6M...that's 18M...Bosh can only sign for the max 16.2M and Lebron is a non-factor salary wise since they can re-sign him period You know Gilbert will pay the tax, especially if he has a championship in June of 2010...of course if LeBron extends this year, just one of those trades Makes Bosh possible too...since i didn't research the salaries in detail, I'm not positive this all works out money wise

Wally is a streak shooter, and a liability on defense. Why bring him back? He's not the player he used to be, that's why the Cavs signed Anthony Parker and drafted Danny Green. He's not going to get minutes over Parker, West, Gibson, Green and Mo. Would Z even want to come back @ the mid-level? All I'm saying is that teams might be interested in Z b/c he has an expiring contract, and that IF the 76ers would be trying to move Brand @ the trading deadline in order to free up cap space for 2010, the Cavs should consider trading Z. Brand would make the Cavs a much better team b/c he's that 4(PF) that everyone is saying the Cavs need. This might make the Cavs look more attractive to the 2010 free agents, especially LeBron James. And with Shaq's $20+ million coming off next year, they can still make a play for Bosh. The Cavs have depth, and will not suffer if they don't re-sign Wally or Joe Smith. It's time for Ferry to make the Cavs THE premier team in the east.

    # 241povertyjones@...by saying they should keep Z as a bench player I didn't mean at his current 12M salary...he'd be a good insurance policy at an MLE size salary...and the 5.5M for Smith is what was reported here locally when he was signed...at 1.2 he's a bargain to re-sign...as for Wally..he isn't in demand anywhere...but he'd be worth the 6M to give some of these guys who were worn down by playoff time some rest...Look at the Lakers bench after Odom last year Walton?..Farmar??..every team needs guys that won't hurt you to suck up minutes-especially in blowouts-so you can rest the regular rotation...NO team goes deep in the playoffs with a 7 man rotation..Cavs vs Magic last year is a perfect example

The cavs can't trade Wally or Joe Smith b/c they're not under contract. They're free agents!! Really, who wants them? If any team wanted them they would've signed them already. Sign and trade 4 Wally? Why??? Who really want's him that bad, that they're willing to negotiate with the Cavs and trade away some of their talent, when he's a free agent?? Meaning that they can sign him to whatever contract they want. And according to ESPN, Joe Smith only made $1.2 million last year (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=788). The only way Z comes back next year is @ the mid-level, b/c Ferry is not going to re-sign him @ his current salary. Teams are going to be looking for ways to dump salary for 2010, and Z's expiring contract will be very attractive for teams that want to make a splash in next years offseason. That would be an opportunity for the Cavs to get that 4 everyone wants. Or, they can use it to get another premier FA to sign with LeBron.

i think the cavs should try and get in a trade some1 like emeka okafor, tyson chandler, or mayb trade and get someone tall, or whos just a beast down low and grabs all the boards, and then add one more person at center, like Andres Biedris or something, just a good backup who can give u good minutes 4 the the too old guys (Shaq and Z) 4 like 15-20 minutes, a PF/C type of guy, and deveop JJ and DJ, i believe that JJ has a potential in the next 2 years to turn into a beast, like 15 point 8-9 rebound kinda guy, i think we should sign joe 2 the veteran minimum and sign and trade wally and maybe put in joe smith 4 a good combo big man, and ad whatevers available, if the cavs get a good Pf tho, the championship is ours

ok..Wally and Joe Smith are not on the Cavs roster/payroll as of right now...Wally made 14.4M last season and is free to sign with any team...he has no contract and neither he or the Cavs have options...In order to trade him, they have to re-sign him. They can do that at any salary up to the max as long as they are willing to pay the luxury tax...or another team is willing to take on his salary (three year deal with first year guaranteed to do a sign and trade) I like the guy as a player because he NEVER quits, but he is worth no more than a MLE size salary-a little under 6M...Joe Smith is in the same situation contract wise with a little wrinkle..The Cavs acquired him off waivers...so he has no Bird rights with any team right now...He made about 5.5M last year and, if healthy, is worth every penny of that again this year..The question being..does he come under a non-Bird exception if the Cavs want to re-sign him...Going into the off season the Cavs were paying about 13.5M in luxury tax which would put their payroll at about 80+ M...the cap is 57.7M and the tax level 69.2M..The Cavs can't afford Lee or Brand without trading away an equal amount of salary...Z could be a good bench player for the next two or three years and will probably be somewhere in the organization when he retires..ya gotta keep him as a back up...I would bring back both Wally-at the above mentioned salary-and Joe-if they can use the non-qualifying free agent exception-which would be about 6.6M ...If they ever sign Green, I don't think they have the rookie exception for him since he's a 2nd round pick...Right now they're at about 75-78M without Smith or Wally...and if LeBron signs an extension that goes up about 3M...SO..they don't have a lot of options in signing any more FAs except their own without trading away some of their veteran players...about the only thing left now is Minimum salary players and, when the season starts, 10 day deals...

Wally and Joe Smith don't make anything because they're both unrestricted free agents. This is Z's last year under contract with the Cavs. They're not going to resign him at the rate he's making now, ($11 million). Why not trade him to get better? Teams will like him b/c his numbers come off the books for 2010, giving them more room to go after LeBron or any other premier free agent. That would free up more money for the Cavs too, b/c I don't see the Cavs resigning Z or Shaq after this season. That gives them about $30 million to lure another player to play with LeBron. Or they can use Z's expiring contract to get another all-star caliber player like Brand to not only play beyond 2010, but for the playoff run they should be in. I like Z, but he's slow. His feet are as delicate as fine china, and if he shoots another 3-pointer, I'm taking a hammer to his pinky toe, lol! Point is, if you can get something for him, trade him.

wow dandaliero, why don't you just go lay down your entire fantasy season, and make a HUGE best on it cause I think you're so on point! are you kidding me? you're crazy, leave your fantasy world and why don't we wait till the first game is even played. no one would've predicted the post season that just passed and no one can tell what next year is gonna be like either. As for Cavs winning 82 games... awesome, they had a great record last year and lost in the playoffs, that'd just be more humiliation for the franchise. Guys... let the fricken season start before you start making all these ridiculous comments--- there are powerhouse stacked teams this season..just enjoy watching it.
