Bulls forward Thomas has surgery
CHICAGO (AP)—Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas(notes) had surgery on his left forearm Saturday, a day after he broke it during a weight-training session.
Coach Vinny Del Negro says the operation went well and that Thomas will be re-evaluated Tuesday. Thomas is expected to miss four to six weeks, leaving the Bulls with just 10 healthy players.
His absence could create an opportunity for rookie James Johnson(notes), who had appeared in just one of the first five games. Del Negro says the Bulls also are discussing whether to sign another player.
Thomas is averaging 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Some guys say he needs time and coaching, wake up.....this is CHICAGO, there's no time for Baby boys to become Men.
See Rose, Jennings, Durant....guys with no experience already making a huge impact.
If he's going to be restricted free agent, i just hope crazy russian NJ owner puts some money so we just get rid of this loser...

Has the literacy level and comprehension skills of the readers here really declined this severely?
This article relates to TYRUS THOMAS, 4th year player out of LSU, starting power forward for the Bulls the past 2 seasons. Talented young player with great athleticism, speed, shot blocking abilities, rebounding skills and great vertical leap that shows flashes of promise, but has had issues with attitude, shot selection, team defense, and professionalism.
TIM THOMAS has done 2 stints with the Bulls, drafted out of Villanova in 1997, and it currently on IR with the Dallas Mavericks with a knee injury.
Regardless, this is sad news for TYRUS, as there is much interest in his performance this season. As the Bulls have chosen to let him become a restricted free agent after this season, he really needs quality playing to time to (a) develop, grow, and prove his worth and fit with the emerging players on the Bulls, and (b) portray his potential value to other teams in the off-season negotiation process.
Hopefully this will neither (a) set the Bulls back too far with a very difficult part of their schedule on the horizon, or (b) set Tyrus too far back in his development at a very pinnacle point of his career.
As fans, I believe that we need to bear in mind that many of these athletes are very young men, and really need the counsel and leadership of coaches and more experienced players to help them utilize their talents.
Commensurately, statistically speaking even being on an NBA roster makes an athlete part of a very select group. As such, there is a great responsibility on behalf of these athletes to seek opportunity to develop and grow, adopt good habits and behaviors, and seek counsel when needed. I think this is what many young players "don't get"... Talent does not equal entitlement; athletes may get the shot at "the bigs" but it is ultimately up to them acquire the "life skills" to stay there....
