Sources: Warriors met with Jackson
Mark Jackson has met with Golden State Warriors officials to discuss the franchise's coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The meeting occurred in Los Angeles nearly two weeks ago when Golden State executives first embarked on the replacement for Keith Smart, sources say. Jackson could be brought back for a second interview, but former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown remains the leading candidate for the opening.
Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank is scheduled to meet with Golden State officials this weekend.
Jackson, a cable television analyst, has been pursuing a head coaching job for several years. Despite his lack of experience as an assistant coach, Jackson has been an attractive candidate for several teams because of his strong NBA pedigree and leadership skills. Jackson played 17 seasons in the NBA and stands third all-time with 10,334 assists.
The Warriors have talked to several candidates, including Brown, New Orleans assistant Mike Malone, Lakers assistant Chuck Person and Kevin McHale. Los Angeles Lakers assistant Brian Shaw is also a candidate.
Jackson was the runner-up to Larry Drew for the Atlanta Hawks job a year ago. He's been a candidate for several jobs, including the New York Knicks, over the past several years. Since retiring in 2004, Jackson has chosen against going the assistant coaching route and stayed in television.
