Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Atlanta Hawks center Zaza Pachulia appeared on CNN yesterday afternoon to discuss the conflict taking place between Russia and his native Georgia. Micah Hart at Hawks BasketBlog grabbed a few screenshots and jotted down some quotes. "I am not trying to talk about who is wrong and who is right," Pachulia said. "The most important thing to me is that there be peace, and that the people of Georgia not have to live in fear for their lives or their homes." Well said.

In order for there to be peace, there must be war...everyone knows that!

I'm glad he's speaking out like this. Both the Chinese and Russians seem to be receiving a lot of attention right now for positive political moves. In reality the IOC has done nothing but politically bow to an oppressive communist nation, and the Russians are crushing Georgia while the world watches the games. Where are our priorities?

I wish some of our American athletes were brave enough to speak out on issues like this. I understand that it is more difficult to speak out for issues in another country than to speak out for your own country's issues, but that's what the best Americans have done throughout our history. Besides, it's not like there aren't an abundance of issues here at home that our athletes could bring up. It would be nice to see some of our current Olympians step up and use their platform for something more than personal and national glory...to use them to promote peace, as per their original purpose, rather than McDonald's.

Shawn27 - They are athletes, not politicians.
They stick with what they do best. People don't tune in the Olympics to check out the world news.

They are there to play ball! Period. Shawn 27, can you tell me who "the best Americans" are that have done so throughout history? Just wondering (Brad and Angelina?).

As long as we Americans care more about basketball than peace on Earth we should have no chance to lead other nations to end their wars. This is true especially when we are leading by example with our own war. I respect Zaza for speaking out. Athletes have a responsibility to model correct attitudes like his because of their public celebrity status. Just as actors often do. By my part he is the only person from his country who I know about.

why they were created there are no leaders there just people looking for hand outs,

Russia wants to become a major superpower again like in the Soviet era and this latest invasion of Georgia is just a test for them to see how the world will react. Russia is just itching to retake the Baltic states again and the Western Powers and the rest of the world must stand up to Russia and not let that happen.

great comments ! unfortunately in this world not every one is a loving neighbor, wealth power and oil determine quality of life ,, russia is a country known to have wreckless country men, due to the U.S.'s commitment in iraq it was the best time for them to attack, but a dumb basketball player saying let there be peace is so old

For those tards that didnt get the message of my comment, pay attention...if Russia continues to attack Georgia and the United States decides to help stop it what do you think that we are going to do...are we gonna have the president sit down with Russia and have some tea and crumpits...no you morons we are gonna send troops or send bombs there way...now let me ask you, Is that peace? Sounds like war to me... In order to attain peace, there has to be a conflict...I didnt realize there were a bunch of 5th graders posting in these blogs or else I wouldnt make statements that are too complex for their mental capacity...

Eddie first your comment about my mental capacity hurts...actually no it didnt and I dont care to argue with you about this because really I dont care...I made my first statement just because, how do we attain peace...the answer: war and threats... "In order for there to be peace, there must be war" its stating the obvious...For all of you who were offended by my statement, all I can say is "Call of Duty" its a quote from a general who was in WWII. Sorry you all take life seriously

There must be peace. No debate on that! But it should not be coming from pres bush of USA. He is in no moral ground to speak on the issue. Very cunning.. he even fooled he fellow americans to promote his and friends business interests (e.g. oil and manufacturer of war machines).
Now he's war mongering by setting up 'defense systems' in Poland to promote again his business interests. Remember how you reacted when the former Soviet place 'defense systems' in Cuba.
The Superpowers should hire consultants from countries with relatively less shameful acts in their history to shout at Russia and Georgions
    Hey Brothers, have PEACE

This post is to express support and to provide a counterpoint to the above posters. War in another's country is no place for imbecilic puns on the name Georgia, nor meditations on the necessity of war. Our ally lies in shambles and we do nothing.
