Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Yesterday, Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations (and gangster), announced that DeShawn Stevenson and Paul Pierce had been fined $25,000 each for making "menacing gestures" during games over the weekend. The NBA didn't get specific, but it's believed Stevenson was dinged for his Game 4 Undertaker impression, while Pierce lost bills thanks to Al Horford's mouth and this:

As you can see from the comments at Reds Army, there are a lot of differing opinions on what Pierce was actually "throwing." Was it a symbol for "a-hole?" Was it a mark for "blood, sweat and tears" like the Celtics brass says? Or was it, in fact, a Bloods' gang sign? What do you think? Should Calderon and his gangbangin' ways be worried?

Why wasn't Al Horford fined for the finger pointing gesture he made at Pierce?

It could be an international gangsign, you could have something there....it could be a contact from the space aliens of area 51 that transport the sports teams places. They dont fit on the metro in several countries you know..it wasnt even built for them...you ever notice that? arent you afraid of them?

Man...please! Nothin' to cry about! As always, the league's always picky about these things. But c'mon, give me a break...it's playoff intensity. If Pierce wants to get all "gangsta", just let it be. I mean it's not like you saw a brawl out there like back then with the Knicks and the Heat. Come to think of it, I still have that memory of Van Gundy hangin' on to Mourning's leg like there was no tomorrow. Heh.

I think that's a gang sign for "blood". at an enviroment like that and what was happening to pierce, that's his way of threatening horford cause he couldn't get to the Hawks' bench.

Could someone give me a time mark in that example where the reporter says Pierce does that before every game that he actually does it? I didn't see it. Either it's BS or I don't have a very keen eye.

it's obvious...paul pierce is from inglewood, ca, a city that's predominantly a "blood" territory...he went to inglewood high....and that is the sign for "blood"...i don't know why you're all surprised, there are hundreds of professional athletes with ties to california "street gangs"...they may not be involved in any "gang activity" but the bonds formed from childhood are still there...

Dean S - it does mean that, but in the hood it also means blood. Trust me there are a lot of wannabes here throwing that up - knowing they are not true bloods. I don't think he mean what you thought because the way he did it - it was like "what's up? Blood here, boy." It wasn't in an aggressive "you're a f'in [profane]."

Dean S - Trust me, I live in inglewood. I went to high school around the same time as paul pierce. he's a local hero. he's also a blood. so is baron davis, so is elden campbell. get over it. if you were raised where they were raised, under similar conditions, you'd wanna be a blood too. college kids wanna be fratboys. ivy leaguers wanna join country clubs. young black males in southern california wanna be bloods and crips. not all, not even most, but a great deal do. it's life. get over it. Willie McGinnest in a crip, and a local hero in Long Beach, same as Snoop Dogg. These guys are rich now, they give millions back to the communities from which they came. but they'll never forget where they came from. in a way it's commendable...not necessarily condonable, especially in the "workplace" of an NBA Court or NFL field, but you'd be surprised at the things you'd hear from the players. You'll hear "Cuzz" and "Blood". That's just the way it is.
