After meticulously wading through numerous qualified (and some not so qualified) entries, Ball Don't Lie is positively thrilled to announce the winner of our free NBA League Pass broadband account contest.
Unfortunately, our BDL panel of judges couldn't come to a consensus on which "must watch game" entry we liked best, so the six finalists' names were dropped into a bowl to let good ol' Lady Luck do her thing.
Below are the six best submissions, as well as some amateur photographic proof of our lucky winner.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest. There were many interesting (and hilarious) answers, and I appreciate the effort that went into writing all of them. Cheers!
Corey I — December 11, Oklahoma City vs. Memphis
"Sadly, I come to you as a die hard New York Knicks fan living in New York City. In the past decade, we have suffered through an incompetent owner, a delusional GM who thought Zach Randolph(notes) and Eddy Curry(notes) could be the new Twin Towers, a self driven and self absorbed point guard, and few (note: very few) wins. As if this weren't enough, this past off-season, while looking for a point guard of the future and trying to bring in pieces to attract free agents, we passed on Brandon Jennings(notes) for good old Jordan Hill(notes). Now there have been worse situations in years past I'm sure, but let's not forget that on top of all of this misery, all of this pain, and all of this torture, we will also be forfeiting a top 10 pick to the Jazz. This situation stated, I need to watch good, pure basketball where I can appreciate the game and its stars. Dec. 11, 2009. Not the sexiest of games, but I write to you longing to see the Thunder and Durant take on Mayo and the Grizzlies. This is all I have. With the future bleak here in NY, let me become acquainted with Mayo, Durant, Westbrook and Harden, so that I can continue to tell myself that even if the Knicks are miserable, the NBA is still a game to love."
JB — December 19, Sacramento vs. Milwaukee
"Kings and the
Bucks, should be a show / 'Reke and B-Jennings goin' toe to toe /
Rookie of the Year, bragging rights at stake / 'Reke with his dunks
Jennings got that shake 'n' bake / Should be a good game, word to
Skeets / Tyreke to Beno Udrih(notes), BJ to Gadzuric / Mike Redd on the bench
in street clothes, Maloofs will make the trip with the usual hoes /
Triple-double for Jennings, 10 and 10 for Evans / Bucks and the Kings
would be League Pass heaven! / Gotta see this game, gotta-gotta see
this game / Gotta see this game, gotta-gotta see this game."
Rogeber — November 21, Milwaukee vs. Memphis
Brandon Jennings
may or may not be the next GOAT by then, but watching him in the free
week of League Pass was like a gateway drug. If I don't get to see him
play on League Pass, then I may have to resort to Tas' illegal methods.
We all know the Bucks don't play on TV. I love the Grizzlies this year
for a different reason - its internal struggle is going to be fabulous
to watch. Will Z-Bo and Iverson win out over O.J. Mayo(notes) and Rudy Gay(notes)?
Only one team will be on the floor for Memphis by season's end - the
young, athletic team, or the old, ball-monopolizing team - and I'm
anxious the see the battle play out. And it's not going to happen on
ESPN."
no way... — December 22, Oklahoma City vs. L.A. Lakers
"I am
a disheartened, disappointed, and disenfranchised (literally) Seattle
Supersonics fan. I have been a loyal fan through the high days of the
Glove and Reign Man, and the low days of "this might be my last Sonics
game ever." However, unlike most bitter Sonics fans I have converted
into an Oklahoma City Thunder fan. I try to watch every Thunder game
that is available on TV (not many), and follow the team's development,
stats, scores and results every day. Last week, I was on the edge of my
seat as Kevin Durant(notes) air-balled a 3-pointer, five feet behind the arc
as time expired in regulation and in overtime of the Thunder-Lakers
matchup. I was shocked, partially because of the horrendously poor shot
selection by the best player on my team, but mostly because the Thunder
had a chance to beat the world champions ... TWICE! So I am asking you
to give me the power of League Pass for the next Thunder-Lakers
showdown, which will continue to support my abstinence from watching
Seattle Sounders games, and dream that one day, the Squatch will make
an appearance in the Emerald City again."
twentysackman@... — January 22, Portland vs. Boston
"Seeing as how the blog is named after a phrase that Rasheed Wallace(notes) coined, I gotta pay homage to the man and pick a Celtics game. Doesn't hurt that they look like the best team in the league. Fortunately, all the games versus the elite are covered on national TV already (Lakers, Orlando, San Antonio, Cleveland, Denver) so I have to go a different route. Much as I'd like to see Sheed's return to the Palace, I don't think Detroit is very good this year, so I'm going to pass on that. But I am circling my calendar for January 22nd, when Portland heads to Boston looking to join the elite teams and get a win in one of the toughest places to play. Last year, Denver went in and beat them on their home court and it was a huge statement for them. I think Portland can do the same. If I got League Pass and my team, Golden State, implodes (which has a very real chance of happening) well, at least I would be able to fall back on watching some good basketball!"
Stat-man — February 3, L.A. Lakers vs. Charlotte
"I
absolutely, positively, without doubt, and in all other ways
inconceivably, can't go without watching the Lakers vs. Bobcats on
February 3rd, 2010. Now, you might say, "What? That's the game you
can't watch?" But, hear me out. As a Lakers fan, I'm extremely
frustrated that the Bobcats have OWNED the Lakers for several years. We
swept the Celtics last year. Swept the Cavs too. But the Bobcats? THEY
SWEPT US. Please, oh pretty please, with a cherry on top give me League
Pass so I can finally watch the Lakers DESTROY the Bobcats. This is the
ticket. This is the moment. Cue the piano music. Where the Lakers beat
the Bobcats happens."
And the winner is ...
... just let me unfold it ...
Corey! Congrats!

That's like Bill Gates giving away money to a millionaire and calling it charity.
