Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Gatorade just launched a pretty cool — natch, G — promotion on Facebook to celebrate Michael Jordan's upcoming Hall of Fame Day and the Gatorade Limited Edition Jordan Series bottles. Incredibly, Dwyer and I somehow managed to weasel our way into it.

Gatorade is asking fans to honor Jordan's induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame by voting for his most memorable moment on the Gatorade Facebook page. A panel of top sports journalists, personalities and, ahem, this weirdo nominated 10 unforgettable memories — from Jordan's celebrated dunks to his many title celebrations — and now you get to decide which MJ moment reigns supreme.

You're allowed to vote for your favorite Jordan moment once a day and (if you're 18+) get a chance to win a trip for two to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sept. 11 in Springfield, MA. Note: You don't have to enter the trip sweepstakes; so don't let that deter you from jumping over and voting for Dwyer or me.

"The Shot" moment is going to be hard to beat, even if it is a tad overplayed. Nonetheless, if you're feeling generous, or you simply agree with our picks, here are BDL's two humble submissions.

First Title Celebration: "Seeing Michael hugging that trophy in 1991, as a Chicagoan, you could not absolutely help but swell with pride. Looking at the Chicago Bulls red in a locker room, soaked with champagne, in a place where Lakers gold and Celtics green once was? It’s the reason I do what I do, 18 years later." — Dwyer

Six Treys, One Shrug: "Game 1 of the 1992 Finals, MJ sets an NBA record by hitting six treys in the first half. After his sixth money ball, Michael looks courtside and shrugs his shoulders as if to say, 'I’m as scared as you are, guys.'" — Skeets

The MJ moment with the most votes when closing ends on Aug. 31 will become a collectible Gatorade bottle.

Vote.

Not sure what you are referring to by "the Shot," but Game 6, 1998 obviously wins. I assume that is "the Shot," but your reference to being overplayed makes me think you may be referring to the game-winning shot over Craig Ehlo, which is played constantly and far more often that Game 6.

His game-winning jumper to win the title for NC didn't make the list? Curious.

Now who is this Jordan character I've been hearing about lately, and why does Gator-ade want him on their beverage's bottle?

Of course its the cross-over-pull-up-jumper at Utah. But the playoff game he played with a fever and literally collapsed each time he came to the bench is a close second.

The man took people's soul. Think of all the guys who would have rings if MJ didn't play hoops...Ewing, Barkley, Stockton/Malone, Reggie, anytime I watched him play was the greatest moment.

I wish someone would have nominated his switch hands layup against the lakers. I spent hours that summer trying to imitate it.

For me, it's quite simple.... June 1998, Salt Lake City.... a moment that is still locked away in my mind. Sometimes, I ask myself "how can something so simple and unimportant to many mean so much to one?" Imagine this... your Mother had passes 6 months earlier, your Father has a heart attack and nearly died 3 months before, and my house BURNS DOWN a week before this day! Yeah, this is my life while i'm in my Junior year of high school. I was a top tier basketball player in Texas before the news of my Mother and that died with her. My "resurrection," came with one shot. It just so happen that night I was playing basketball for the first time in 6 months and they were showing the game at the gym. One of the employees kept giving us updates on the game and when "THE TIME" came, we were ALL in front of the tube. It had to easily be more than a hundred hoop fans in front of the screen!
Sorry to bore you, but as I said before... something so simple, yet so meaningful. MJ and "Da Bulls" 4EVER!!!!!

how about him being cut from his Laney High squad.....then of course him and big game james worthy and co. winnin the 82 title.....then his flashy dunks and battling dominique when he had hair and a chain......the 66 in the loss to the celtics....the double clutch layup against the lakers in 91.....the shrug is timeless b/c cliff robinson is right behind him lookin up at the screen like: "WTF????"........i feel that the ehlo shot really isnt overplayed b/c they used to always show the push off on byron russell in 98.....and speakin of the jazz games....how about the flu game where he put 20-ish in the second half and all while being completely dehydrated/depleted of energy........but curg is right he put a halt to the bad boy piston era, magic's reign, made clyde's life hell, and all those blazers never got a title, he helped drive the sonics in the ground for good, kept barkley and the suns from winnin, and kept ewing, miller, stockton, malone from getting titles....funny how barkely and drexler and malone and payton ended up teamin w/ each other....i just wish he coulda held off baseball until 99 and not 94.....i woulda loved to see mj and clutch city fare off

The last shot against Utah, classic!
Personal, the 51 and 45 (22 in a row) points he dropped in DC against Charlotte and NJ when I was at that games in 2001. The game before Charlotte he had 6 points against Indiana and people where saying he was to old, even to us when we where at the airport.. And then Boom! http://articles.latimes.com/2002/jan/01/sports/sp-19364

Good choices. I'd have to look back at some of the Pistons/Bulls games and Knicks/Bulls games to find one that sticks out to me. I really wasn't impressed with the Utah shot when it happened, but I grew up as a Pistons fan.

I would say it was ending his minor league career over the Mendoza line @.202. This was always his favorite sport and basketball was just a job. And according to the Wizards, had he drafted correctly 20% of the time, he would still be running that team.

There can only be 1 of 3 Jordan moments to choose from. 1 the shot over Craig Ehlo 2. the shot over Bryon Russell or 3 the dunk from the free throw line

For me, hands down winning the championship (4th I think) on Father's day. When he snatches the ball and hits the floor crying then goes to the locker room without speaking with reporters and sprawls out weeping. Come on people...hands down the greatest, most emotional Jordan moment.
