Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Sulaiman Folarin is the editor of JOCKlife.com, the voice of the athlete. Today, Sly drops by BDL with a couple of videos featuring Rockets center Yao Ming and friends caught up in the spirit of the season ...

What do Yao Ming and Tony Hawk have in common?

Well, asides from the fact that they both are athletes — one a giant from China and the other a skateboard king — both are into philanthropic gestures this holiday season.

With the aide of PayPal, Yao along with Hawk and other athletes and celebrities are re-gifting a fruitcake. What is the fruitcake you ask? It is a Facebook application that is tracking the world's most viral fruitcakes as the celebs regift their virtual food to raise money online for their charities through PayPal.

"I like to think Yao and I are both really passionate about our sport and that we believe in charity work," Hawk said. "We believe in giving back to communities and to kids in need."

This two-pound fruitcake is an opportunity for Yao, Hawk and friends — Ben Roethlisberger, Jimmie Johnson, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden — to give back during the festive season and also in this time of economic distress.

Now fans can regift this fruitcake to friends and can also track it as it goes around the world. That's cool, and the only way this works is if you as a fan get involved. Re-gifting the fruitcake also helps raise money for the people involved. "This is a way to make a fruitcake cool," Hawk laughs. "By giving it to a bunch of friends and at the same time sending a video about a good cause and with someone you might identify with."

"It is important because this is the best way to spread the word virally and the idea of a fruitcake is you never actually keep it, you give it on," Hawk said.

Six celebrities. Six worthy charities. And six "fruity bricks of hope" to regift. Happy Holidays …

#10 - uhh, celebrity sponsorships are worth millions...if instead of fruitcakes for charity, Yao was doing Nike, I guarantee you he'd be getting paid $$$.
