Phil Jackson is an excellent basketball coach and has 10 championships to prove it. As we've seen before, he's also a pretty good jokester. And just like he'll gladly flaunt his rings to motivate his team, he's not shy about cracking wise during an in-game sideline interview.
However, during Sunday night's Game 3 in Phoenix, Phil Jackson's joke-making skills went on the fritz, which apparently short-circuited his coaching prowess.
Philip seemed a little more pleased with his jokey joke than he probably should be. I'm all for clowning on Craig Sager's insanity sauce suits, but when doing so, get the comparison right. Phil Jackson must have forgotten that very basic rule because Sager looks nothing like the Good Humor man.
Does Craig Sager look totally ridiculous? For sure. Does he look like the Good Humor man at all? No, he does not. He's in pink and he's not wearing a hat — besides his hair, which kind of qualifies but is the wrong kind of hat. This comparison is null and void.
Even worse, after Jackson's joke bombed, the Suns slowed the Lakers with a 2-3 zone that held Los Angeles to 15 second-quarter points as Phoenix opened up a lead. Were the Lakers struggles due to Phil's preoccupation with figuring out what Sager's suit really looked like? Most likely. Just bad news all around. Ergo, Phil Jackson is awarded no points, and may God have mercy on his soul.
