Video: Lakers' bench is a creative bunch

As you might recall, a new NBA rule this season says that players on the bench must be sitting during the game as to not obstruct the views of rich, short people behind them. This, of course, killed the common team ritual of reserves standing before their respective team's first basket is made — always a big fan favorite. Or at least it was. Thursday night, during the Lakers-Nuggets preseason game, LA's bench introduced a new Stern-friendly "first basket" ritual straight from the movie "Major League". Check it:

Yes, Josh Powell(notes) needs more practice. Give him time.

This may not be original, but it is definitely not in the same vein as that of the Cavs last season. This is a concerted effort of the bench to support their team, be part of the action even if they're not on the floor. As long as it is not as excessive or as self-promoting as that of the Cavs, this is a very good way of showing team collegiality. It also shows younger fans how cool the game is. Way to go Lakers! You're a class act!

Does anybody actually read the descriptions of the video or just watch them? The article clearly states that it's from "Major League."

Now this is really funny, and what did the league do about the media personell. Have you looked how far from center court these reserves are. The reserves don't have to warm up any more by the time they get to the check-in table they have gotten their first trip down the court in. There is nothing more frustrating then seeing a bunch of camera men running on the court to see who gets their camera shots or the first interview. If the fans don't like the seats, don't buy them. HOW many times have players taken tumbles because of the media. or fallen over the media tables at middle court.. Let's see, you need a time keeper, a stat keeper and you need an official to run the clock. OK! OK! let's ad an extra chair for the commish. Can't all the rest of the people do their jobs in another area of the building? Another ridiculous rule.

Just like street ball leagues I see the color commentator running down the court with mic in hand, Listen get serious. The league decided two refs weren't enough so they added a third, then they added instant replay, then they decided to fine players after the fact. whats worse they just keep adding rules and there are still problems. Don't create more rules you can't enforce. Next you'll want to add referees on the benches, These are men that want to have fun, YES! over paid bonus babies but the fact is. It is in the long run just a game. So if you don't like it, Take your ball and go home.

LOL!!!!! The Lakers are ridiculous. It will be interesting to see what other teams rituals are during games now that they aren't allowed to stand. #11 you forgot "The Choken One","The Joken One". Lebron might win a ring someday but he's going to have to stop blaming teammates for his shortcomings. Might even be smart to work on his freethrows for the simple fact he would be a threat in late game situations and it would boost his scoring average 3-4 points a game. If he doesn't win a championship in Cleveland this year he is gone come summer time. It will be a Western Conference team that wins it anyways. LA, San Antonio, Dallas, Denver, or even my Rip City Blazers can take the top 3 Eastern Conference teams and wrap a series up in 6 games. The NBA should seriously think about changing the playoff format and take the 8 division winners and then the next 8 teams with the best records regardless of conference.
