Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Last night, the Blazers beat the Kings, and as Papa Shanoff points out in today's Wake-Up Call, you most definitely saw reasons for the enthusiasm — at least in the box score. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 24 points, Brandon Roy added 21, angry Greg Oden posted 13 and 9, and Rudy Fernandez flipped in a cool 16 off the bench. Solid contributions all around. But the highlight of the night goes to Speed Racer:

You Got Dunked On commenter "InYoFace" nails it: "When did Kevin Martin turn into Scottie friggin' Pippen all of a sudden? He's getting to the hole a lot more lately. Think maybe Reggie Theus passed along some coaching tips from his SlamBall years?"

It's not Reggie Theus ... it's David Thorpe telling him to dunk it more. They talked about it, and Thorpe even put him through drills where he dunked over and over again until exhaustion.

Why was this the play of the game? Martin traveled on this dunk. True, this is the NBA, but they re-play it 4 times and I cant help but notice he gather steps with his right foot, takes his first legal step with his left than his second with his right, than a third with another left. Sorry to get tech on this but if you get an extra step its no wonder he was able to dunk on the young blazers, they still think traveling is a turnover in basketball.

Not nearly as impressive as Fernandez's alley-oop slam from Rodriguez.

Yeah Kibbitz, and I think the message goes a little something like: "We're not good enough to compete with your team even when our best player goes apesh!t."

    How IS it a travel?
I'm a Blazer fan, and I don't see a travel there. He took two steps and a leap-- that is legal and always should be if I had MY druthers.
Kevin Martin is an incredible scorer. Now, I still take Roy over him, because Roy is a good defender and great playmaker-- but he'll never approach how good of a scorer Kevin Martin is. If Martin can become more of an all-round player, in addition to being the most efficient scorer in the league, he could make the Kings better than people are expecting.

Three steps have been "legal in the NBA" for 30 years, since way before Michael Jordan ever arrived!
Guys like David Thompson and Dr J were the first to get the basketball purists all up in arms about taking three steps to dunk it back in the 1970's in the ABA and NBA both!!
Where have you guys been?? LMAO!!

I think the fact that he takes 2 steps and then jumps is why its ok...if he planted that 3rd step and then jumped on his fourth I might complain...

He doesn't cup the ball early and you can freeze fame it at 12 secs. He crosses right at 3pt line, then he has his left foot forward at 18ft when he 'rocks the cradle' and gains control of the ball , he plants right foot at 15ft and then jumps off his left foot for the dunk. NOT A TRAVEL.

He soo traveled... He did jump off his third step... You can't take 3 steps whether you're dunking, making a lay-up or shooting a bomb from half court... In the end, still a nice play, couple of players got "postered"...

Could have definitely been called a travel. There was clearly 3 steps. The NBA just isn't so harsh on that kinda stuff. You need to make a HUGE travel before they bother blowing the whistle..which I guess isn't such a big deal.

You can't cross, cradle and then take your two steps.. that's a travel! A little hesitation/"rocking the cradle" does not count as a dribble. Seriously ref.. look it up.
