A thrilling opening day of the NBA season continued into Christmas night, with Derrick Rose hitting what has turned into his signature floater in the game's waning seconds, knocking off the Los Angeles Lakers in a hard-fought 88-87 win.

Rose capped off a 22-point afternoon in Los Angeles with his ninth made shot in 13 tries, stunning a Laker team that had utilized good ball movement and stout defense to take an 11-point lead with just 3:45 to play. From there, Rose and do-it-all forward Luol Deng took over, culminating in Rose's game-winner:

Though both teams are still working through the growing pains as a result of the shortened training camp and preseason schedule, Los Angeles' improved defense and Chicago's mettle was quite impressive. All we could wish for is a rematch in Chicago, later this year. Sadly, the 66-game season put the kibosh on a return engagement. Within the regular season, at least.
