The Phoenix Suns 'Gorilla' needs your organizational skills

Via the good folks at West Coast Bias, who are quickly throwing their resumes together, comes news that the Phoenix Suns Community Relations department is currently looking for a full-time, salaried Mascot Coordinator. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to: scheduling community relations, public relations and marketing appearances, preparing, managing and tracking all expenses as it relates to The Gorilla budget, monitoring the Suns website section pertaining to The Gorilla, and peeling bananas. A four-year college degree is preferred. Best of luck.

    Why is the mascot a gorilla? That has nothing to do with Phoenix or the sun.
    I've never understood this.

    Back when the franchise first started someone proposed via a singing gorilla. It was broadcast on the arena's video screen and was such a hit, Jerry Colangelo hired him to be the mascot. BTW, that guy retired and another guys has been in since...That's right, in nearly 40 years of having The Gorilla, only 2 people have suited up!

    I went to a Suns/Sonics game years ago. A guy dressed as a clown was sitting behind the Sonics bench with a Go Sonics sign. During a timeout the Gorilla went to take the sign from the guy and rip it up. The clown punched the Gorilla. I thought it was a joke until the Gorilla grabbed the guy and they rolled thru the expensive seats. The Gorilla got on top of the clown and punched him in the face. A bunch of Suns personnel pulled him off and both the Gorilla and clown left. The Gorilla was suspended for a few games. Where else can you see a Gorilla beat up a clown? I Love This Game.
