The Knicks soap opera continues ...

On today's thrilling episode of "The Steph and the Restless", Stephon Marbury is suspended one game and docked nearly $400,000 in salary by the New York Knicks, who say the disgruntled point guard refused to play in a loss this week at Detroit. Dun duh duh Donnnnnnnnie Walsh ...

And later this week on S&R, Q-Rich says Al Harrington's headband is a bad teammate, Nate Robinson visits a "shady" groin specialist, Steph steals Mike D'Antoni's miniature schnauzer, and David Lee's evil twin brother, Marvin, burns down his apartment.

Stay tuned!

I do have to say that this is Mike's fault and I really love Mike and I don't think he cares if we know he's at fault. He played Marbury off the bench in the pre-season and he accepted it without a word. Once the season started, Mike changed his approach with Stephan and it was insulting. Even if he's unliked on the team, he's still here and HE'S the best way to make the lost scoring up. HE is the best player on the roster and after this suspension is over, Stephan needs to play! Mike and Stephan don't need to talk to each other, just play him and have him earn his contract!

d'antoni may have played a point - but we will never know. it might just have been a set up to get steph out of town anyway and not having to pay his contract - knowing fully well in advance how marbury would react. still, its just another example of marbury never being a team player, etc. if he HAD an agent, he would not only avoid a lot of this mess, and secondly he would PLAY - at least as an audition to other teams of his worth. steph was never a good team player, and this is a shining example of that fact.

No, Dinglebury is an employee and he plays when and where he is told to play. It doesn't matter if its the last minute of a 40 point blow-out, If he refuses, suspend him and fine him. The right move for this creep, who has no future with the team and no trade value. If he doesn't like it, he has the option of negotiating a buy-out.

Let's end this long icy relationship in NYC with stephon and company already.... To be fined 400k is really not the best thing to do at this point. But then again I believe the knicks ORGANIZATION IS STILL REALLY SPEECHLESS about that huge contract and must feel better about a 400k burp... Grow up and release the beast.and let his show of athletic promise shine as all NBA players have a chance to do....And a good way to show it is to hope he winds up in MIAMI and thaw out his icy gaze and be part of a great rebuilding PROCESS!!!!!!!!

With Stephon's only other outlet of income ( crappy clothing line) losing its only retailer, he needs all the money he can get. I understand his teammates don't like him. His coach don't like him. The GM don't like him. The team's owner don't like him. And now most of all Knicks fans don't like him. So why is this knuckle head even a Knick. I say make it a clear contract that he is not allowed to sign with any Pro team anywhere until this season has come to a close and just pay him to sit at home. Some people would pay $100,000+ to sit where he sits, right on the court. I say pay him and sell that seat to a fan. He is a burden, a distraction and a little baby. Over the years i have seen several players take a back seat to the future. You never once heard Marbury claim he would be happy with limited playing time just to help his team. He is a selfish player that no NBA team in their right mind would want. Maybe he could play for Al Davis or Jerry Jones. The NBA don't have big enough rosters to carry a player like him. I hope this get resolved shortly and the Knicks can move ahead with a selfless attitude and players who will do everything they can to help them win. I hate to sound like a parent but winning is not the only thing that matters. First thing that has to happen is cohesion and a positive attitude toward your team mates. The 1 thing the Knicks get out of the situatuion is unity, they all seem to hate Marbury.

Are you kidding me? Stephon Marbury is a lot better than a lot of the point guards currently in the league. Remember when the Knicks made the playoffs? Marbury averaged almost Chris Paul like numbers without the steals. MArbury is not the same player or person he was back in his career. He is obviously a calm, cool, collected and intelligent man now who understands the business and sport of basketball. Look at Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, Allen Iverson... they are not all the same people they were a few years ago. The New York management is trying to set up Marbury for a violation of his contract so they can get money back or drop him without penalty. This is ridiculous.. of course Marbury will get signed...

For 20 million dollars he should wipe Mike's butt. The guy is a prima- donna. What would anyone who posts here do for 20,000 never mind 20 million. Imagine that hey buddy you know the 20 mill we are paying you we are sort handed I 'd like you to play . Nah coach I'd prefer not to I'm mad at you go ahead and keep paying me but i wont play until you make me feel better. WOW people figure this crap out.

Seriously !!! Marbury is not going to play and it's actually the smart thing to do. D'antoni made the wrong decision by saying he wasn't going to play him and now it's come back to bite him. Donnie Walsh and Mike D'antoni need to actually communicate with each other and not finalize trades before you have the other players that you just traded for. I mean if you were getting paid about a $190,000 just to sit down for 2 1/2 hours you would do it, wouldn't you? Marbury is owed a lot of money and the Knicks are just trying to find any way possible to not pay him all of it. Also, Steph probably will get signed next year as a backup point for extremely less money than he is making this season. No team in the league is going to trade for him right now because his contract is worth to much money. Their going to have to pay him the money one way or another, either buy him out or let him sit. The smartest thing they can do is actually talk to him before the day of a game and try to reach a compromise that way he has no affect on the outcome of a game he's not playing in. Duuuuuhhhhh!!!!!

Dantoni screwed this up. The Knicks have terrible management. they shoukd have bought him out before the season began instead of playing head games with DNPCD. Dantoni even blind sided the GM with that move. Now they have made crappy trades in the Lebron sweepstakes and the need Marbury to hold them together until the savior comes from cleveleand. The Knicks are stupid. Pay the man and let him go somewhere else where he will light up the hoops again!!! and the knicks will still stink as long as they keep Dantoni.

Any team that signs Marbury has to be desperate. Even in his best days when he put up big stats he dominated the ball and didn't get his teamates involved. He may still put up numbers but he will never get a team any more wins. Reminds me a lot of Ricky Davis. Any time he is on your team you can count on 5 to 10 less wins a year.

I hate Marbury but I believe him. DAntoni didn't demand that he get in the game, he just asked him. He should keep his money, he's been humiliated this year while being a good soldier. He's still on the team cause he doesn't have an agent, he's too stubborn. Probably doesn't want anyone to get a cut of his money.

does anyone know the result of marbury's grievance last year when he left phoenix. my guess is that the knicks have set themselves up for a loss with this suspension and fine, or perhaps they are just trying to help their buyout negotiation with marbury. in any event knick management is as disfunctional as ever.

Marbury needs to leave this team. The last few years have been mildly entertaining with drama, but the true Knicks fans are beyond it now. If the organization is paying you over 20 million dollars to play basketball, you should play basketball. It's as simple as that. I would rather watch the Knicks play as a team and have another losing season than continue to feed into this nonsense to watch Marbury put up decent numbers. We are on the right track to finally have a respectable team again, we can't afford these quick fixes anymore. To get the team where it needs to be will take time, that's all. Stay focused Donnie, you're doing great.

I don't usually go for the "they make too much money" stuff, but seeing that Marbury makes almost 400K for two games just blows my mind. To put it in that context, that for two nights work, this dude who was never won a ring, who has only been to the playoffs a couple of times, who doesn't make his teammates any better, and is a self absorbed waste of talent, makes this kind of jack makes me sick to my stomach. To top it all off, the dude makes this much and doesn't feel that he even has to do anything if he doesn't feel like it. Amazing, I feel dirty just talking about it.

Hey Kev, comparing Starbury's 2003-4 Knicks campaign, the year they made the playoffs during his tenure, to Chris Paul last year, Paul had a better FG% (48.8 vs. 43.1), 3FG% (37.0 vs. 32.1), and FT% (85.1 vs, 83.3) and had more points (21.1 vs. 19.8), rebounds (4.0 vs. 3.1), assists (11.6 vs. 9.3), and steals (2.7 vs. 1.4) in 2 fewer minutes per game. And Paul lead his team further in the playoffs than Starbury. And this year, Paul's numbers are better across the board. In Starbury's defense, at least he managed more TOs (3.2 vs. 2.5) than Paul. Oh wait, that's not good, is it? Let's face it, Chris Paul is already twice the player that Starbury ever was, and he's only getting better.

Why blame the coach? blame the big head steph. He is a professional basketball player, if your coach says you dont play then dont play, if your coach say play then play. Thats a professional basketball player. Steph is a reject thats it. Nobody wants him that is why he is talking about going to overseas because he knows that nobody will give him another 22mil dollar pay check in any team in the NBA. You spent another millions of dollars to a big head steph who cant bring his team to the playoffs. Every team this guy plays barely reach to the playoffs.
