Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Scanning the blogs and beats following the Lakers' series sweepin' 107-101 win over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals ...

Empty The Bench: "Kobe simply willed the Lakers to victory, scoring 14 of the Lakers last 19 points of the game to finish with 31 (along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists). And he did it every which way imaginable, from deep threes to acrobatic lay-ups - Kobe would not allow his team to lose. That’s what MVPs do."

Bill Plaschke, Los Angeles Times: "... nowhere in the NBA today does that pulse beat harder than underneath barely sweaty, slightly torn gold jerseys that brushed quickly through their first mountain. What the San Antonio Spurs couldn't do, what the Boston Celtics didn't come close to doing, the Lakers have done, sweeping their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets ... After which I asked the Nuggets' Allen Iverson a question that today permeates not only the Los Angeles basin, but the NBA landscape. Just how good are those Lakers? He looked at me scornfully, then laughed. "We just got swept by them!" he said. "I don't know what kind of question that is."

Mark Kiszla, Denver Post: "Trade Allen Iverson? Give up on Carmelo Anthony? Dump the salary of Marcus Camby? Any analysis of what's wrong with the Nuggets must start with George Karl. 'He's our coach. But I think we all should be evaluated in the offseason,' Nuggets vice president of player personnel Rex Chapman said. 'This is the second year in a row this same crew has come up short. Everybody needs to look in the mirror.' With two years remaining on Karl's deal and an aversion to buying out contracts, Kroenke has six million reasons to rationalize the retention of his veteran coach."

Elliott Teaford, LA Daily News: "As promised, Lakers coach Phil Jackson kept Vladimir Radmanovic in the starting lineup and Luke Walton on the bench for Game 4 on Monday night. Radmanovic has struggled offensively during the playoffs, but Walton has provided a spark for the second unit. Jackson said he sought to inspire Radmanovic. "I told him, 'As a coach you hate to see talented players not play up to their ability. It's my job to get you to play up to your ability,' Jackson said. 'Vlade, in his normal way, said, 'We'll talk about it in our exit meetings at the end of the season.'"

Aaron Lopez, Rocky Mountain News: "About 48 hours after proclaiming he, his coaches and his teammates "quit" in Game 3 against the Lakers, Anthony was not treated as a hostile witness in his own house. Signs around the Pepsi Center were supportive - "Don't Stop Believing" summed up the theme - though the Nuggets still carried themselves with an us-against-the-world attitude."

Lakers Blog: "I'll give Denver credit. They managed to do something that honestly I didn't think they had in them — play 48 minutes of hard (though not necessarily smart) basketball, and even come from behind to close the game in the second half. They were spirited (though not necessarily smart), spunky (see previous), and showed a little groinal fortitude (though not necessarily brains)."

Hopin' for LA all the way, but they got a tough road ahead of with the Spurs crankin' it up. If not this year, then definitely next; pending everybody is healthy and remains intact. Go Lakers! BTW, Kobe is your 2008 NBA MVP! Check it out ((http://www.nba.com/awards2008/) before they decide to pull it. I think it's still a little early before they officially announce the MVP.

iknow that the lakers were going to lost in the first round and four games. They have four big guys on there team and they could not do anything. Maybe they should get reed on some players, lets start with who do u want to get reed and make as your captain ai or carmelo, and than who do u want to trade nene, marcus camby, and get some better center guys because u don't win games with no defense and maybe carmelo dui took them out of the game or just carmelo but the probably is ai was not playing defense and wanted to rely on offense but the defense was not good. I hope ai see that practice is a wonderful thing and this is the reason why u have practice.

FIRE GEORGE KARL!! His philosophy is weak! Help defense! Everyone assumes they have help and any team that can pass (which all western teams can!) can find an open man with the Help Defense, and it creates a weak mentality that you don't have to guard because there is "help" coming! Nobody on the Nuggets believes they can play D so they all try to score, without a team mentality! We want Larry Brown!!!

Oh and that "wimp" your refering to is the leauge MVP who's team just sweept the first round so...........how is he a "wimp"? and who uses that word anymore? If you dont think the Lakers are the a dangerous team then you're a dumbass. The Lakers have so many weapons to use now, and they are gaining more confidence on each other. Lets not forget Kobe can turn it on at anytime. Thats what MVP's do. Even when Denver was coming close Kobe will not let his team lose. Obviously the Nuggets need to work on defense but you know they are not a crappy team because if they were they wouldnt have won 50 games and not be in the playoffs. People should realize the west is going to win again this year. The western conference is the toughest. Spurs are the defending champs and look like they make another run.

Great to see all the Laker haters out in force. What a bunch of losers. Just like Denver. No one can guard Kobe one on one. The Lakers are playing as a TEAM. Their bench is deep. And they have a Championship waiting on them in June.

Hey jazztogo. Funny how you try to build up your shi*ty team by using them in the same sentence as the spurs. Dumbass.
Also, give some examples of how Kobe Bryant is a wimp. I bet that bit*h in colorado didn't think he was a wimp when he was pouring the meat to her! Seriously, on court show me someone who is tougher physically or mentally. Again, your a dumbass and your team goes bye bye if they see the lakers.

It's not worth it to say much about this 4 game sweep, for the LAKERS and their fans it's all about the championship. All of you Jazz, Spurs fans should just hope that they don't get swept. And that the Jazz give you haters something to wish for, b-kuz we here in LA know that you dream about beating the LAKERS and winning a championship. And it's not just winning a championship for you haters in U-tah it's more about beating the LAKERS. Like I have said thru the entire 2nd half of the season, LAKERS & Celtics, you can just imagine who's gonna to be there, all the great players from both teams, and anybody that is anybody. Like all the great heavywieght fights of old. So smell all you haters next season, but remember to continue hating it's probably all that keeps you warm at night.

the la lakers are going to sweep the utah jazz, just like they did to the nuggets. utah was dominated by the lakers this season . they are not gonna do much towards the lakers. right now, the jazz are shaking with fear. they have seen a fearful sweep. and they know pretty well that they are going to be the next one. the real kings are the lakers...not lebron. gooo llaakeers..!!! go for another sweep.

Say Chuckie Big-Butt Barkley (TNT) I hate to have to tell you but your not fooling anyone we now know for sure that you're just another bandwagoner. But it's kool, we out West understand your pain of not playing for the LAKERS. But you did come close The Suns, then The Spurs. But hey, I still find you funny. I haven't heard what you have to say about the LAKERS' sweep of the Nuggets, hope you had a good time in Atlantic City, oh I'm sorry you were at the sports emmy's at New York, But we know wink????

the sweep on the nuggets is stunning, especially to the tv commentators. they can not comprehend what happened. besides, the la lakers are not a favorite among the broadcast media. if you listen to hubie brown, he has nothing good to say about the lakers. barkley?... well..he said lately that kobe is his mvp. i do not care about barkley. whether kobe is his mvp or not, i do not give a hoot. he does'nt count to me. what matters now is kobes' performance with the team. astonishing performance. and with that performance, the la lakers became an astonishing team. KOBE = M V P no doubt about that.
