Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Almost three years ago to the, um, year, Deadspin's Will Leitch set out to salute the most outstanding blogs for each NBA team. He called it "Blogdom's Best." So cute. But a lot has changed in the last few years — Ballhype, Blog World, RSS feeds! — so we here at Ball Don't Lie have decided to take a second look. This aft: the best Portland Trail Blazers blogs.

Goodness gracious sakes alive, this was tough. No kidding, this team really does feature a formidable blog lineup, and while we’re not copping out and telling you that the three ranked positions are interchangeable, it truly was a close one.

I mean, had you told me a few weeks ago when Skeets proposed the idea for ranking the top three blogs for each team that I would end up leaving the sublime work of Sean and the OregonLive staff at Blazer Blog out of the Portland triptych, I would have probably asked you just how far down in the polls that McCain/Pawlenty ticket was, and if my beard ever grew in. I probably would have returned to the subject of the Portland Trail Blazers much, much later — considering that you were sent from the future — but it still would have been a surprise.

So, for lack of better foresight, here's the best of the rest, in no particular order:

Blazer Banter — Timely news, news, news.
Behind the Beat — Put together by one of the best beat writers in sports, Jason Quick.
Mike Barrett — The PDX play-by-play man always has good stuff.
The Inferno — "Inferno" means "hot," to these eyes. Hot!

3. Blazer's Edge — Some of the more thought-provoking posts in the blogosphere have come from tidy, little site over the last few years.

2. Center Court — Access, access, access. Multimedia content, tons of posts, great stuff to dive into, daily. Amazing that it came in second. Casey runs a fabulous site.

1. The Rip City Project — Coup and SJ write so damn much, it’s amazing that they mostly keep to documenting the ups and downs of just one team. A fantastic blog.

If you would like to nominate a specific team blog for selection, let us know right here.

A great list... I would have given BlazerEdge the nod though.

Blazer's Edge is some quality stuff, and J. Quick is rad.

What's deeper: Portland's bench or its blogosphere content? Blazers Edge is easily a Top-10 team-specific blog, by anyone's estimation, and it comes in third in terms of Blazers blogs. That's remarkable, and a testament to the amount of devoted fans that franchise has -- fans who were devoted, I might add, even before the Blazers added Roy, Oden, Fernandez, et al.

Not even close, it should have been Blazers Edge. Come on BDL, man up like Hochuli and admit you're wrong.......

I agree with idizzle. BEdge has the rest of them beat without breaking a sweat.

Does Henry at Truehoop count? BE, Casey, and then Sean at Blazers Blog. Rip City Project doesn't even belong in the top 3

Hmmm...I'd give it to BlazersEdge. That's the Blazers site that I've known about for a while now. I didn't even know of the top two until I read this. I'll definitely read them now that I know about them, but still man...BlazersEdge not no. 1?

BlazersEdge is the most thorough day in and day out blog. I give them the nod over the other two.

All these BlazersEdge posters think that because they are actually able to get their own stuff published on a website, somehow said website must be a better blog. BlazersEdge has devolved into a mess of self-indulgence and over-analysis and is now home to a group of social rejects that live in a fantasy world called BEdge. I'm sick that place.

Blazers Edge is by far the most indepth. OLive and center court are great because they get insider info. Check out www.bustabucket.com for some old school Blazer fun and fan experiences.
