The Blog Association: Dallas Mavericks

Almost three years ago to the, um, year, Deadspin's Will Leitch set out to salute the most outstanding blogs for each NBA team. He called it "Blogdom's Best." So cute. But a lot has changed in the last few years — Ballhype, Blog World, RSS feeds! — so we here at Ball Don't Lie have decided to take a second look. Today: the best Dallas Mavericks blogs.

Can you really count Mark Cuban's groundbreaking blog in this instance? Or how about Amanda's consistently funny and engaging reads from You Go Live In Utah?

Copping out, in order to try and list five blogs where three would do? You bet! Don't bet on the Mavs, they'll struggle to win 50 this year, but bet on these blogs.

3. SPORTSDAY — Tim McMahon's blog, he was the guy who Mark Cuban wanted to ban from the Dallas locker room, and for good reason. Tim's good at his job. All the best are banish-o-ble.

2. Dallas Basketball — These guys have been around forever, actin' all mainstream, asking smart questions, getting it right, covering the team properly. Ban 'em!

1. Mavs Moneyball — Speaking of getting it right, well, you guessed it. Wes knows what he's doing, doesn't overreact (that's significant, and especially rare among team bloggers), and covers the Mavericks expertly.

If you would like to nominate a specific team blog for selection, let us know right here.

Isn't it funny how a Mavs blog post bring the people who don't like them? I guess they secretly like the Mavs if they take the time to click and post...

I'am consider myself a big fan of Dirk Nowitski. And I consider him some sort of a Larry Bird style of playing the game. But for Dirk to be put on one of the greatest basketball player of all time. He has to win a championship for the Dallas Mavericks. And I think with all the right components now with his team, this is the time for him to win the championship.

Can't wait for yet ANOTHER first round exit for the Houston Rockets. That's if they even make the Playoffs htis year. They have truely perfected the art of the NBA Playoff Early-Exit

Go Mavs, its about time that tou win your first NBA title. Dirk is not going any younger and other teams are getting more talented young players who can compete plus the coming of an array of good international players. Get some tough ones who will help Dirk, the likes of Nash and Finley years back.

Rockets bright injured future? Hmm, what month will Tracy get back problems again, or Yao with his huge fragile feet, and Artest of course will injure the entire team's chemistry. I can foreshadow the furture, and its not past the first round of the playoffs...

I am a die hard Dallas fan and we had our chance to win a championship with team we currently have. (minus J.Kidd plus D.Harris) and we blew it vs Miami. Adding Kidd to our roster sounded like a good idea but it really hurt us. I wish we still have Devin because of his quickness and scoring. J.Kidd no doubt is a future hall of famer but at this stage in his career he can't even be considered an allstar in the talanted West.
With that said... Sorry to say to all Dallas die hards like myself but we had our time and our window of opportunity has closed. The fat lady has sung. Its a rap! The best thing you could do in life is to be real with yourself. Take a look in the mirrow and tell yourself the Mavs are a playoff team but not a championship contender.

Benny, the Mavericks' window for a championship hasn't closed yet, it's still open, slightly open that is. I agree with you though that the Kidd trade hurt us. I don't watch NBA games as often because of school and the basketball channel was removed but I always look at the box score and read the recap of Maverick games. Luckily though, I was able to watch the Olympics because they televised it in one channel and I'm sad to say that Kidd is as good as 60% from what he was 5 years ago. He was too slow to defend and I really saw CP3 and Deron make smarter decisions. Also, in one of the live blogs here in yahoo during the Olympics (I think it was by J.E. Skeets), I remember one of the hosts saying give him a break because Kidd lobbed the ball for a trailing LeBron James when there were 2 open men to pass for and the host asked sarcastically if that is what you call leadership (which obviously isn't in that situation).
On the other hand, I thought Dirk was good but he just didn't have teammates who were good enough.
I'M A DIE HARD MAVERICKS FAN TOO EVER SINCE 2004, a year since I started watching basketball (in 2003, my favorite was the Nets ran by J-Kidd).

I'm a Mavs fan but I have to agree with Benny above. The Mavs are a playoff team but aren't strong enough to win it all. Their window of opportunity is just about ready to be nailed shut.

don't underestimate the mavs this year. sure they took a minor step back last year but with Kidd coming back from the Olympics i expect him to start gelling with the players better and with Carlisle on board (one of the most under rated coaches in the NBA). they'll win 50 again and this year they will make it past the first round and maybe further!!

Cuban gambled and lost. Their time to win was against miami. Dirk will never lead this team to a championship. The window is almost shut on this team lead by the soft Dirk.
