Ball Don't Lie - NBA

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.

C: Empty The Bench. The underappreciated beauty of good, hard-nosed, Eastern Conference-style defense.
PF: Yahoo! Tom Van Riper of Forbes.com examines the high cost of firing an NBA coach.
SF: FanIQ. President George W. Bush, shootin' bricks and droppin' dimes.
SG: West Coast Bias Sports Blog. Heavy, heavy question: Is Kobe Bryant's legacy on the line?
PG: Cuzoogle. If JVG was coaching the Celtics tonight, this speech is how he would hype them up.
6th: HOOPSWORLD, via SR. Sources say Ron Artest is considering opting out of the final year of his contract.
7th: And One. Yao Ming's signature Beijing Olympics exclusive limited edition shoe, the Pump Omni Hexride.
8th: Game On!, via Hooped Up. Dr. J's five all-time best basketball players.

SG: Is Kobe's legacy on the line? Yes and no. He's not even thirty years old and this is his first time around with Gasol, Odom, Bynum, and Fisher as his core--plus it's really only been half a season with Gasol and Bynum's been out for months.
In Jordan's 1st full season with Phil Jackson and the core of Pippen, Grant, Cartwright, and Paxson--the same crew that won the title a year later--the Bulls not only didn't win the title, they didn't even get past the Eastern Conference Finals.
If the Lakers try and fail again next year, Kobe's rep gets a little murkier. This year is a mulligan except for true haters.

    True hate! Troooooo hate!
You know what the funny thing is, despite loving the Lakers I actually dislike Kobe. But if he loses tonight he still has about 8 years left in his career to win some titles. If he wins 2 or 3 more rings, how is this year anything but a speed bump? I don't have to like Kobe to like the Lakers' chances over the next five years with the young core.
Meanwhile, congratulations to the Celtics on their great season. Good luck repeating with the mercenaries on the tail end of their primes. This year: Probable. Repeat: Somewhat possible. Threepeat: Doubt it. Dynasty: Fat chance (but Stern could always entice someone to slide the C's another disgruntled Hall of Famer.)

The best defense on Kobe was not the boys in Green... but KB himself. On nearly every play, KB is standing 30 feet away from the basket. He refuses to be part of the offense. He would prefer taking the ball 30 feet out and then 'create' his own shot...and if he wasn't able to find a shot for himself, he would with 3-5 seconds left on the clock pass off to one of his 'guys' just enough time for them to rush a shot up (as there are no other options...how many times did we see this scenario?).
