Ball Don't Lie - NBA

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.

C: A Stern Warning. ASW is blog of simple tastes. It likes dynamite, and gunpowder and Joker-themed Carnivals.
PF: What The ???. Beijing 2008 Games — Day 16. Top athlete: Kobe Bryant from Kenya. (Woops.)
SF: Hardwood Paroxysm. An oval table of NBA bloggers discuss the role of small market teams in the league.
SG: Indy Cornrows. The NBA won't let the Pacers use a red, white and blue ball in an ABA-ish preseason game.
PG: Straight Cash. Never forget: Glenn Robinson, Tim Hardaway, Penny, and Majerle were once USA basketball.
6th: The Sporting Blog. The combo of this Yao photo and quote make me very, very sad.
7th: Detroit Bad Boys. Why is the FBI investigating Lindsey Hunter?
8th: The FanHouse. Elie Seckbach doubt Machine from court half. Machine laugh. Makes Elie do 200 push-ups.
9th: NY Daily News. Gus Johnson might not be back with the Knicks next season.
10th: Channing Frye Blog. Channing: "Keeping to the Olympics, I just finished watching what I consider a total waste of time: speed walking. Speed walking is easily the most useless sport I’ve ever seen in my life. I’d much rather see any other sport — handball, badminton, or water polo. It is terrible and by far the most boring."

One more thing ... Vote Nightmare Ant for the Deadspin Hall-of-Fame. Thank you.

Haha, I thought the same thing about speedwalking when I turned on the TV and started to watch the Olympics. I had the pleasure of watching for 5-10 minutes before the start of the race (not knowing it was speedwalking because I was never told until a few minutes before the actual start) and then the hilarity that ensued.

SG: Greedy weakling BS from the NBA because of what? They're afraid of advertising the current (defunct I think) ABA semi-pro league? Afraid the red-white-and-blue ball might be interesting and exciting and the fans might want to see that during the regular season? Afraid to show appreciation for the ABA, the league that ushered in the flashy, crowd-friendly style that the NBA was so eager to steal and grow fat on after they muscled the smaller league into selling out? Step in and man up, Stern. Show the pride and integrity that escaped you during the Seattle situation.

Speedwalking is a joke, but I don't really get BMX biking as an event either. We still don't have American Football or golf in the Olympics, but we do have people riding dirtbikes?

10th: Something we can all agree with Channing Frye about. I've had arguments with people that Bowling should be an Olympic sport (golf too.) It's the most widely-played individual sport in the world and it's highly competitive. I get arguments like "low brow" "boring" and "not a real sport." But Race Walking, the "Modern" Pentathlon, Synchronized Swimming, Badminton, Curling...these are "real sports?" With Baseball and Softball getting cut why? Because the American and Asian continents dominate and the Euros can't get it? The Asians, Australians, & African and Arab nations aren't good at hockey but they'd never drop that.

How could the guy diss handball, though? It's not exactly that much different than basketball, except the defense gets to be a lot more physical and you have no choice but to score from the perimeter. The handball games I watched had a lot more movement on offense than most NBA teams these days.
