Ball Don't Lie - NBA

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.

C: Deep Purple. "At his pool party at the Mondrian Hotel in Scottsdale over the weekend, according to sources, Amare was apparently telling anyone who would listen that the festivities were his 'going away party.'"
PF: The Blowtorch. Proposed nicknames for all 60 draftees. I particularly enjoy Brandon "Ken" Jennings.
SF: NBA Off-Season 2009. Cool tee, 'Melo.
SG: Empty The Bench. Looking back at the hits and (many) misses of the 2006 NBA Draft.
PG: Sun-Sentinel Blog. Winderman: Did the Heat offer Michael Beasley(notes) for the Grizzlies' No. 2 pick?
6th: Trail Blazers Center Court. You know, this Rudy Fernandez(notes) pic would've made a great C-a-C post.
7th: Sactown Royalty. "E:60" on the life-long development of Kings rookie Tyreke Evans(notes).
8th: Bucks Diary. Worst ... free agent signing ... ever. Take a wild guess who before clicking over.
9th: D.C. Sports Bog. Gilbert Arenas(notes) and new assistant coach Sam Cassell(notes) have a bit of history.
10th: Mouthpiece Sports. "Since the Ron Artest(notes) fight and the Stephen Jackson(notes) shooting and all the rest of it, [Larry] Bird has been conspicuously acquiring white players. Whether or not he’s been doing it at the expense of the team — I would argue there were better players than [Tyler] Hansbrough at No. 13, but it’s not a slam dunk — is a different argument. But he very clearly has been doing it."

Indiana's roster consists of 7 white players and 10 black players, which is hardly an all-white team. The mid '80s Celtics squad, which is arguably the best team in NBA history (and this is coming from a Lakers fan) had 8 white players and only 4 black ones. The NBA Champion LA Lakers this year had 5 white players and 8 black players. Perhaps this article is assuming that if you select a white player, it is done for the sole purpose of racism? Pretty harsh words for an article that consists of absolutely no statics regarding the white player ratio on other teams in other cities. I'm not saying Bird didn't select Hansborough because he was white. Who knows? Or maybe selecting North Carolina's all-time leading scorer and NCAA player of the year at 13, regardless of "how well his game transfers to the NBA" (which is code for he's white), is a good pick. He's not the best athlete. Sure. But perhaps Bird likes the fact that he is a proven winner, and that he works his tail off. Besides, before we start calling Indiana's organization racist, let's not forget that the majority of people who actually go to games are white. Sorry, but it's true. And, let's not forget that white players who hustle become fan favorites regardless of where they play. Look at Birdman in Denver. Do you see fans dressing up as Carmelo or Chauncy? NO. And why was Kurt Rambis so the fan favorite in LA's showtime era? The point is, fan favoritism for white players who hustle is widespread throughout the NBA. Indiana is not isolated. But more importantly, Indiana selected the NCAA Player of the Year, coming off of a Championship season at UNC! At #13. I call that a great pick. He's not exactly some schmuck from BYU or something. Come on now. Get serious.

I think Amar'e still has it and I hope he won't sustain anymore major injury if the suns-warriors do make the trade. The only problem is they want curry with biedrins, belinelli, and wright and warriors doesn't to lose curry. Maybe warriors should give up some draft picks.

Wow, you dont realize what a bust the 2006 draft was untill you look at the 2 or 3 guys who have really done anything for their teams. I see the 2009 draft being similar.

In all fairness, the 2006 draft produced some real gems. Rondo, Brandoy Roy, Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Paul Millsap, Sefolosha's cornrows, Adam Morrison's `stache, Walter Herrmann's hair...

Bird picked Hibbert and Rush in 2008, so what's the story here?
And I think Tyler will do fine in the NBA. He isn't North Carolina's all-time leading scorer for no reason..

The Clippers have had 3 good drafts in a year. They picked Al Thorton who just needs a 3 point shot and defense. Last year they picked Eric Gordon who could have been ROY if he started every game. Picked the energizer bunny Mike Taylor, wanna be Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan. This year Blake will be ROY if Zach gets traded. They are on right path, just the veterans suck. (Baron Davis)

10th I'm glad Bird is getting a white team together, maybe his team won't win a championship but at least nobody will get arrested for DUI or shot someone, we all know the blacks are stupid like that.

I think it will be very wise for the lakers gm to re sign ariza, odom & brown since they are part of the champions and will be needing them to a repeat championship. to no break the unanimous, togetherness, and just like our whole body they should all be intact as one.
