Ball Don't Lie - NBA

The Basketball Jones are on the loose in Phoenix. They'll be posting various NBA All-Star '09 videos here on Ball Don't Lie, all weekend long. Stay tuned.

Well, The Jones came to Phoenix to talk to an NBA player ... and that's exactly what we did. Friday morning, Spurs All-Star guard Tony Parker dropped by a Subway restaurant to shoot some hoops with kids and field a few questions. We showed up ... with poor mic technique.

hmm. Alot of forced small-talk to a semi-interested Parker. Not as lame and "time-sucky" as a Nick Friedell interview, but not the wit and basketball banter that I hoped it could be. Kinda craptastic. Kinda expected. Kinda TBJ.

S'okay, don't think TP is a huge reader of BDL or TBJ, so to be expected, but kudos to you guys for landing that. TP is a good start, think you'll get more shots as you get there. Looks like fun!

I thought that was good. You started off goofing around a bit, which was fun, but I actually thought your basketball questions were good and maybe I was reading into it, but it seemed that Tony started to give a little more at that point, maybe realizing that you are for real. And he does seem like a nice, mellow guy. He gave you a lot of time and didn't seem rushed or anything. Well done TBJ!

That was one of the best interviews with an NBA player I've seen this year. Great job, although Parker appears to be much cooler than I want him to be.

It's all about getting that first notch under the belt, but man, you guys really just look like fans next to him. Gives it a unique appeal though.

Nice job. Remember, just like Irwin Fletcher, act like you belong. I sent you Stern's number via email. Forgot that a friend gave it to me awhile ago and I was going to incorporate it into a video message and got busy. If you get a chance this weekend, try to interview Chris Webber and ask him why he was benched by Don Nelson when he was living at the hotel. Rumor (GSOM) was that he was late to the game (forget the matchup) and was seen arriving at the hotel (his temporary home in Oakland) with two ladies and then spotted rushing out with his clothes half on a couple hours later, arriving late at the game. We have had a player talk about being gay in the NBA but how about a contemporary player talking about his threesomes and sexual exploits. Go Webber! You have big shoes (or something) to fill with Chuck out.

I was very disappointed with the outcome of the game. I expected the young vibrant rookie team to leave the U.S Airways stadium with a victory. However this was not the case. I believe that this is due to Dwayne Wade's hoggish ways by giving Beasley his team-mate more playing time than any other player on the rookie team!

    Huzzah and kudos!
If you hadn't asked it, I don't think anyone would have ever grown the stones to ask Tony Parker "do you really take the skills challenge seriously...?"
This is why I spend so much of my workday on this website. I look forward to many, many more interviews like this one.
