TBJ Ep. 465: Not So Super

Monday to Friday, The Basketball Jones look at the big games and story lines from the night before with a mix of in-depth analysis and irreverent humor. As always, questions and comments are appreciated.

On today's show, The Intern pinch hits for JD while Skeets and Tas immerse themselves in the Cavs-Magic rematch. Did the refs give Dwight Howard(notes) a raw deal? Is Mo Williams(notes) the ultimate X-factor? Does no Rashard Lewis(notes) make the win moot? All that, plus Gerald Wallace's(notes) surprising rebounding numbers, impressive rookies, and teams that need a shot of caffeine.

Can you kick it? Yes you can.

Dwight played over 31 minutes, Shaq played just over 19. Get your facts straight, Skeets and Co.
You say Dwight got a raw deal (whine, whine, whine). What about Shaq? Who had just as many fouls AND played far less minutes? According to you two guys, every time Dwight gets a foul it is the refs fault. How convenient.
Your anti-Shaq, Pro-Howard arguments are getting weaker by the day Skeets!
All I ask, is PLEASE stop with you bias mis-“reporting,” it makes you look like a complete ass on a regular basis.

So, just because he's Dwight Howard he's allowed to smack his mark on the forearm when he's trying to steal the ball?
Is he allowed to run the defender out of the court with his body just because he has his hands up?
So Delonte being out ( one of the Cavs better defenders) make no difference compared to Rashard Lewis?
Just because he's Dwight Howard he's allowed to have def 3 second violations and moving screens not called?
Can he push JJ Hickson away and get the rebounds?
Are they bad terrible calls because they are against your team?

Well, when you and your friend Kevin Smith tell people Dwight Howard played 20 minutes or less (or the same as Shaq), when he in fact played more than 10 minutes more than Shaq, and just over 30 in total. That is not an opinion, my sarcastic little friend, that is called reporting the incorrect facts.
Now don’t get me wrong, I in no way consider you a journalist or reporter. So don’t get ahead of yourself!

    i agree with stephen g.
first of all, can you just get the simple and obvious facts right?
it's one thing to be off on a player's minutes, but to be off by an entire 10+ minutes? if you are going to spend a lot of time talking about one game in particular, make sure you get the 'simple' facts right. dwight's minutes weren't some obscure fact--they were discussed during most of the game. n
not to mention, all you have to do is look over the box score for five seconds.
how can i care for your analysis when the facts you base it from are false? come on guys, dwight vs shaq was was the biggest match up of the day... you gotta get that stuff right. at least.
perhaps instead of clicking around various games at once, you can focus on one game at a time. you will be less likely to miss these kind of stats.
i did enjoy the style and format of your presentation for the first minute or so. but once you guys started talking, it was clear that you got a long way to go in preparing your analysis.

I gotta say, despite the fact that rookies do usually get better in the 2nd season, it's a matter of how much they get better by that really dictates whether they're the most improved player. I don't know why you have hate for the idea of that, because all though there are players that do get better, there's a lot more that DON'T make any kind of jump in their 2nd season. Look at guys like Oden/T. Thomas/Conley/Mayo/etc/etc. These guys are not improving by leaps and bounds. That's why when a guy like Gasol, who was solid for a rookie last season, comes out and suddenly averages 16 11 and is putting up a combination of defensive stats that are very difficult for a big man to accomplish(which he didn't do last season), it's most definitely deserving, especially considering he's not even playing that many more minutes than he did last season.

Brush off the haters?? Did you actually watch the game? It goes both ways people. I don't deny Dwight gets some bad calls, but as does Shaq. It is sadly because of the physical game they both play. Which is especially rare in todays big men.
But I am not like the Bill O'Reilly of basketball (aka Skeets), I can actually see (and admit) both sides of a story!

If you have a problem with my posts, choose to ignore them. It seems you have just a big a mouth as I do, Mr. Travis.
I happen to enjoy the show for the most part, and when I see something I disagree with, I might choose to comment on it.
Isn't that what you just did with me? Maybe you should follow your own advice, pal.
Anyways, from now on I’m going to take C’s advice as “ignore the haters.” I said what I had to say, deep down Skeets knows I am right… Although you will never catch him admitting it.
As for Travis – Skeets night in shining armour – have a great day! Hope you get your anger problem all sorted out. It's an effing basketball blog. Chill.

Tahhhj Gibson. Oh, and I believe Rodman was 6'7" his whole career, while D.Rob and Dream were always over 7'. Were you born in '98? All you need is a little bit of heart and a little bit of crazy. Wallace has both. PS. Intern needs more face-time and creative freedom. And a name.

It was meant to be ironic. It seems I spoke to soon and it was in fact lost on you. Shame. Thought I found my long lost e-friend.......
Aside from their one-sided opinions - Dwight Howard and the Lakers being Skeets basketball form of Conservatism. And Shaq being the EVIL Liberals - clearly they are nothing alike! lol. Not to mention basketball means jack-all when compared to politics. Hense the joke.
From now on I will leave the sarcatic comments to the king himself: Mr. appeal-to-the-young-"hip"-audeince-by-wearing-cool-Bose-headsets-and-playing-Kings-of-Leon-between-segments-because-I-never-fit-in-at-Ryerson.

just to follow on from post #17....don't always count size skeets. the round mound of rebound Sir Charles was 6'6" and what averaged almost 12 rebs over his career and currently Shawn Marion has a career average of 9.9 rebs and he is 6'7".....then you look at Bargnani 7ft and couldn't grab a board to save himself. Gotta hit a b-ball camp skeets, height helps but it's mostly about positioning and having a nose for the ball. Anyway solid show today.

These two are idiots! Dwight played 18 minutes. Anyone who reads the blogs knows that. Oh poor Dwight....Shaq had five fouls on him what about that? Oh they played without Rashard Lewis but Vince Carter was supposed to be the man for them. Dwight is the face of the Franchise are you saying Rahard should be? We were without Delonte West and he means alot to Cleveland as well as Leon Powe. What's your point. Magic is supposed to be sooooo deep as a matter of fact someone said they had the deepest bench in the league. Report the facts and not just your opinion. These idiots must be affiliated with Fox News.
