Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Monday to Friday, The Basketball Jones look at the big games and storylines from the night before with a mix of in-depth analysis and irreverent humor. As always, questions and comments are appreciated.

On today's show, Tas and I discuss the Jermaine O'Neal-to-Miami trade rumors, the Magic's big weekend and post-shot celebrations. We also announce a prize giveaway, model our new shirt and take a question from an actual NBA player. (Fo' real.) Enjoy.

Skeets, you guys are killing me softly. I live in Orlando, but it might be worth the trip up there to hear you singing some "Hey Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, Hey Mickey!! Hey Mickey!!"

It's about time Orlando got some respect. I think this last road trip is season defining, the Magic Men are for real. I don't what Tas is thinking, saying there's a lack of depth behind Dwight. If any other center were starting for Orlando, Gortat and Battie would only be a slight drop-off, but when Howard comes out the whole game changes. Those guys are good and play good defense. I'm not worried, this is the year we finally steamroll Detroit.

3 Reasons Orlando can't win the big one
    1.) Defense
Sure theier D is in the eliete level right now, but D usually tightens in the playoff's. Can Orlando's D tighten up and get to that playoff level? No it can't. Dwight is great on D don't get me wrong, but when you have Nelson, Hedo, and Rashard playing big minutes, your not going to be an eliete Defense during the playoffs.
    2.) 3 pointer oriented offense
Can they stay hot from three for 16 games? I don't think anybody can. They shoot more 3's per possesion than anybody, so this is a major problem.
    3.) Dwight on Offense
He is useless when outside of 5 feet. In the Playoffs, the better teams will force him outside 5 feet. The Pistons did it the last couple years. He is the main focus of the Offense, so when he goes out the whole offense will eventually crumble.
Orlando to me is the epitimy of a regular season team. They are great right now, but they don't have that "extra level" to draw from.

If Dwight will quit going to the floor and bring it out --- and Nelson doesn t turn it over as he has in the past - they are there for a runner-up this year

When Dwight Howard makes a difficult shot he holds that hand up and stares at it like its possessed, which is pretty entertaining. Gary Payton used to do the reverse raise the roof, that was classic. But the best celebration of all time has to be Mutombos finger wag, which struck fear into the opponents.
