Ball Don't Lie - NBA

As most of you know, I co-host a daily NBA podcast at The Basketball Jones. This season, for reasons unknown, Tas, JD and I have decided to try our luck with video. As always, questions, comments and feedback are appreciated.

On our first show of 2009 — natch — Tas and I discuss which teams might rise or fall in the standings, Slam Dunk snubs, our favorite NBA moments of '08, and whether Stephon Marbury and the Celtics are a good match. All that, and we take it outside for our latest "Book Off/Pay Off".

Give Marbury a break. Aside from his rookie season, the guy never really had any talent around him on any team he went to. The "star" players next to him were always hurt and he always had to play with less than favorable teammates, including both Marion/Amare who weren't/aren't even happy to play alongside Nash. Marbury can and will dish to teammates that are able to finish the plays he can create for them. If he does end up with the Celtics, which would be a great move by both parties, he will surely be playing more than the 8 minutes that Tas predicts. He is, even now, a better overall player than Rondo. The issue with Marbury has always been that he cannot single handedly carry a team over the hump, much like the cases of Garnett/Pierce/Allen. Marbury, in that sense, is a perfect fit for this group. If Marbury was to start for the C's, he'd average 10 assists per game, easy.

Anyone that doesn't believe what Lebron did was a travel doesn't understand the rules of a travel, including Lebron James. I can't believe that he doesn't think that's a travel. It's really simple. Whatever move you make, you can't do it taking THREE steps. End of story.

If anyone is voting for the last guy for the dunk contest you really need to vote for Westbrook. You won't be sorry.

Can't believe Skeets lost his iPhone on the fish move. Also can't believe that Tas is such a good FT shooter.

First of all....That was absolutely travelling on LBJ! He picked up his dribble and took 3 steps. They even showed it in slow motion...No question about it. If you really watch an NBA game, you can pick out 5-10 travellings per game, but they are rarely called unless they are blatent. Much less, on one of the NBA's best, at the end of the game. Good call Ref....Keep it up.
