Summer Leagues start this afternoon

Wake up, junkies

It's been a good week and a half since the NBA Draft, we're almost three weeks removed from the Finals, and it's time to start paying attention again.

Summer League!

(Sorry, the Orlando Pro Summer League.)

Starting this afternoon, the Heat, Bulls, Pacers, Nets, SuperSonics, and Magic (natch) will take part in a five-day exhibition that will not be televised, though it will be available to view at orlandomagic.com.

Sure, the more prominent summer action will start on July 11th, from Las Vegas, but this is your first chance to see Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose take each other on while sporting warmup gear. To say nothing of a Yuta Tabuse or Vladimir Gulobovic sighting.

So, starting at 3:00 pm EDT, start scoping it out. We won't be providing breathless reports in the wake of the action, but computer permitting; the matchups will be worth our time.

Here are the rosters.

Here is a message board to potentially join and talk about the hot, sweaty, Orlando Pro Summer League 2008 action! Because you need to.

Here is a blog written by Magic center Marcin Gortat. Because he needs to.

Can you feel it?

Summer league is where the house warming starts. QUE Imposters using my name and dissing other people are so uncivilized .. but thank you for admiring me , just like I admire sports,, but the rose & beasley situation will be good to see, I prefer Bulls or Knicks as the cindarella of 09 but, only time could tell how the clock ticks

Take away Michael Beasley, and you've got a future Athletes in Action/Marathon Oil team right there.

Beasley just ate those kids' lunches. I know it's summer league play, but 30 pts and 10-11 rebounds, in just over 2 quarters is enough proof for me. He is the real deal, and Chicago will regret having not picked him. I know the home town flavor was a popular choice, but now we're even more overloaded at the guard position in Chicago, and still have no low post scoring. :-( Poor Bulls.

Those of you who doubt this kid, I hope are man enough to fess up when he makes you eat your words. If he keeps his nose clean, remains coachable and humble, he will be a hall of famer. He could average 20-10 as a rookie if he stays out of foul trouble and gets 35 min. per. game. Once he gets help in the pivot, he is going to be unstoppable. I personaly think his game is better suuited for the NBA than Durants. Also, to all the Kevin Love haters, get ready to eat that humble pie!

    Two years?
If Beasley does not get injured, he will be an All-Star as a rookie.

-NEVER EVER HYPE UP A SUMMER LEAGUE GAME-
let me remind you of Marco Belinelli of GS droppin 39 pts on his first outing then goes on to avg 25+ ppg the rest of the summer. but then here comes the regular season and....wham! ---2 ppg during the regular season.
i know its Beasley he's a outstanding rookie, but im not 100% believing in all the hoopla of summer league, not until he does that in the reagular season....

That is a very valid point, and I do not believe in gaurentees, but Belinelli is a European jump shooter, and this kid is a post player with outstanding range, solid rebounding skills, and god given instincts. If you are a fan who enjoys talent evaluations, you have to stand by your prognastications. He is going to have his ups and downs, but his quiver is much fuller than most. It is a team sport, so it is up to the Heat to surround him the right type of players. We'll have to wait to see how much he wants it.European player have'nt, for the most part learned to leave it all on the floor(Pau Gasol). The comparison is almost an insult to players who learned the game on the playgrounds. Beasley has a cocky mean streak, which most great players have.

Don't forget that Belinelli sat behind Monta Ellis and Stephen Jackson all year, two 20 ppg scorers that averaged about 40mpg. The point about summer league still rings true, although any data gathered--whether it be against inferior competition or not-- can be potentially valuable if filtered correctly.

Rose is a joke. C-mon he was on a national title runner because the team had great players. Individually he stinks. Beasly was the better bet.

Relax its summer league....and Beasly was garded by the two worst defencive players on the Bulls...Noah and Tyrus. Hes going to be good Im sure but to say after 1 summer league game hes going to average 20+ 10 a game is insane.
only three players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in their rookie season......Oscar...MJ and LaBron....are you all going to place Beasley in that group after 1 summer league game? HAHAHAHAHHA

no....only 6 teams are playing in the orlando summer league....bu there is another summer league, and im not sure who is playing there.....
anyways,i still dont get why everyone is calling beasley a low post scoring threat....i mean i watched the stream of the game between the bulls and the heat....more than half of his shots were from the outside.....i'm sure he'll be a star in the league, but i'm still happy the bulls chose rose.....
