Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Mr. Pringles, Mike D'Antoni, was introduced to the New York media as the 24th head coach of the Knicks yesterday. After the meet and speak, former Suns' guards Quentin Richardson and Stephon Marbury were asked a few questions about the new guy and next season. Game On! has video of all three — D'Ant, Q and Steph. Take a wild guess which one I'm posting.

"Deranged grin: check. Miami Vice outfit: check. Inexplicably sweat-drenched skin: check. "Running in the mountains" with his brother in L.A: check. We missed you, Steph."

Well said, Posting and Toasting. Well said.

UPDATE: After the jump, "real footage" of Steph training in the mountains!

Well Rico, guess all NY now needs is an assistant coach that can make the team win playoff games by playing some defense as well, right?

people are hating on D'Antoni in new york saying that there are zero players on this team that would fit D'Antoni's style. however Nate Robinson is a lightning fast and loves to play an uptempo game and loves pushing the ball, he will fit in beautifully in D'Antoni's system. the same thing as Jamal Crawford, David Lee and Q-Richardson. you all can sit there and laugh at what im saying but unless u actually watch the knicks games then u will know what im talking about. as for Steph, common, i wish you luck because your my starting pointgaurd but your not dominating any team, any time soon, time for you to go and lets find a point gaurd willing to move the ball. Tj Ford perhaps?

TJ Ford moving the ball? LOL! He is one of the most selfish non passing pg's in the league! I guess he would be a perfect fit for the Knicks...=P

The man wins, with his kind of players. Am I expectng the playoffs this year? No. However, I do have realistic hopes that given time (three or four years) and a change in roster the Knicks can win, and be fun to watch.

lmao TJ FORD?!! dominating a team? you gotta be kidding me! only reason that marbury and the knicks have been strugglin is cuz larry brown was way too conservative and liked to spread the ball around too much and then came isiah, we dont have to say much about that BUM....marburys stats only suffered cuz he got benched which was an immature personal issue....then he had ankle surgery and his father died....what do u expect...for him to average 20+pts and 8+ asts like he used to in that system? last time i checked marbury averaged like 23 pts 8 assists for the suns and mike D antoni.... and if they do trade him to pheonix so be it....shaq, amare, marbury and nash sounds pretty sick to me!

TJ Ford is just like Marbury....He's being shopped because Calderon is a true point guard, not shoot first, get hurt second, turn over third, pass as last option

Lebron The King James in a Knick uniform never will happen but you can dream.
Starbury will thrive very well and be back to his old form and when he does dont jump on the band wagon

All Knick fans should hope Marbury returns to form, and D'Antoni embraces the best player on the team, and empowers him, entrusts him, and builds up his confidence to lead in a more dynamic offensive system, ulitizing more passing, picks, uptempo. Marbury is still one of the very best going to the hole.

    Skeets,
IMHO ... that was a terific interview Marbury gave to Trautwig, and any criticism of him, in this regard, is totally off base. (said with a straight face)
Marbury isn't my kind of PG ... but that's neither here nor there.
He gave a solid interview to a straight-shooting reporter who asked him a series of questions which were pointed in a specific direction and not once did Steph either take the bait or flinch.
Kudos to Marbury for conducting himself ... in this piece ... like a mature adult.

khandor is right. I actually am surprised to see how well he represented himself in the interview. He said all the right things (not sure what I think about his mountain training though, plan on being traded to Denver?) I just hope he can keep that poise going into and throughout the season.
That thrill (like L. James dunk) he was refering to, needs to occur more in the league in general not just NY. More NBA players need to apply themeselves in being the exciting players they are capable of being. Why must the thrills associated with the game, have to deplete so much that just a handful of players in the league make you want to talk about their performances for months or even years?

The only thing I heard in that interview to be excited about is that Marbury is in the last year of his contract. I think the new coaching change is a great idea. We are a team full of fat big men that haven't got it done on the post, so why don't we let the little talent we have which is at the guard position try to beat them down the court and score for a change.

This is such a good thing for the NBA and the East. D'Ant's style has baffled the East in prior years. Randolph and Curry just need to shape up, walk away or ship out. Q's numbers were sic in D'Ant's system. And, isn't Marion going to be available soon? Like I said, good things.

i wonder if marbury can still claim that he is the best point guard in the nba..he's a headcase. when he was in nj nets he had written in his sneaker "all alone"..that's how selfish he is!!

If arenas doesn't re-sign with washington (depends on if jamison plans on doing so), we've got to make a push for him...i can't remember the last time we had a dominating point guard...otherwise, trade marbury and whoever else we need to and grab diaw and barbosa like d'antoni wants...they obviously are not the answers, but they're good role players at least and are well worth it to get rid of a 20 mil contract...

everyone needs to give Walsh some credit. You know he didn't bring D'Antoni here without a plan. It may take a couple of years for the Knicks to get the right kind of run and gun roster together to fit his offense, but then look out...New York is going to have a fun exciting team to watch (you'll notice I didn't say championship...just fun)
